Any visit to the Isle of Skye is incomplete without enjoying the wealth of history at Dunvegan Castle & Gardens. Originally designed as a fortress to keep people out, the castle was first opened to visitors in 1933 and has become one of Skye's most famous award-winning heritage attractions. Today visitors can enjoy tours of an extraordinary castle and Highland estate steeped in history and clan legend, delight in the beauty of its gardens, take a boat trip to see the seal colony, enjoy an appetising meal at the MacLeod Tables Cafe, browse its three shops and stay in one of its holiday cottages or Glenbrittle Campsite. Loved visiting Dunvegan. Like all the castles in the UK, there is a rich history and a story within. Loved looking at all the art and weapons. The grounds are well maintained and the gardens look great. The food options aren't bad either compared to some of the other castles I've been to. Well worth a visit if you are over that way. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Duvegan Castle and Gardens is such a spectacular visit and our favorite of all the castles in Scotland. It is so well presented and brings you back in time as much as possible. They set up each room to take you back to life the way it was and truly give you a great experience. The inside is so creatively setup down to the finest details. The gardens are truly mesmerizing and enjoyable to walk through for all. My wife loved all the plants while I enjoyed the waterfalls and seeing what the gardens used to look like back in the day with the massive changes in the water flow. Overall, this was the best castle of our visit to Scotland and not terribly busy.
A must visit place in the Isle of Skye's. I would recommend to visit here before heading to Neist point. A designated parking is present. Tickets need to be purchased either online or at the counter near the entrance gate. The castle is about 200 metres from the gate. The castle showcase the life of the royals of Dunvegan and their lifestyle. Being from India I have been to many Palaces and this one do not come close to the pomp or luxury back home but they do have a very unique appeal. The wooden carpeted floor, the utensils used by them, the high ceilings, the study room, the bed room with old bed and many such rustic charms made me wait and observe The view of the lake is equally charming and on a sunny day would have made anyone cheerful There is a huge garden outside the palace as well. To cover it would take some time so keep an hour for that at least. It would not be a good idea to spend some time in nature.
The gardens and castle are really beautiful, but the main reason for our excitement is the way kids are treated at this site. We enjoyed quite some lot of treasure hunts at different sites during our holiday, but this was the best. Our kids (12, 5) were fascinated, and my wife and I had enough time to look at everything. The staff was extraordinarily friendly.
Beautiful structure inside and out. Well kept gardens were an added bonus to stroll through after the castle. The seal boats looked fun, but were fully booked when we arrived at 2pm.
A nice castle to visit with plenty to do for a morning or an afternoon. The grounds are pleasant with several short walks through woodland along with some garden areas including the walled garden, the round garden and the water garden. The history of the place is interesting and inside the castle there is a room where you can watch a video all about it. The video is pretty dated, 90s perhaps, but the information is relevant. Parking is just over the road from the castle and there are toilets and a cafe and plenty of parking spaces. There are also toilets in the castle grounds. If you are in the area and want a relaxing few hours then you can't do much better than a visit to this castle.
