East Lambrook Manor Gardens is the iconic and quintessentially English cottage garden created by the celebrated 20th-century plantswoman and gardening writer Margery Fish. It was here that she developed her own style of gardening, combining old-fashioned and contemporary plants in a relaxed and informal manner to create a garden of immense beauty and charm. Renowned as the premier example of the English cottage garden style, the garden is characterised by many winding paths through abundant borders. It has noted collections of snowdrops, hellebores and hardy geraniums and there is an excellent specialist hardy plant nursery. Dogs are welcome in the gardens and Cafe (on lead) and the Malthouse Cafe sells hot and cold drinks and cakes.
I don't think I visited at the right time but the garden is nonetheless lovely and everyone who worked there talked to me and was very knowledgeable and helpful, including Binky the cat! The nursery garden was great. Next time I'll visit earlier in the summer.
On my first visit to East Lambrook Gardens I was taken back by its beautiful surroundings. This place is a hidden gem for any plants person and indeed anyone who appreciates the work that has been put into maintaining such a piece of horticultural history. I could have spent all day just taking in the atmosphere of what is a truly beautiful piece of history, from the cottage gardens creates by Margery and Walter Fish to the beautiful medival buildings. East Lambrook is well worth a visit for any keen gardener. It was lovely to meet the owner and volunteers that have worked hard to maintain the cottage gardens. The gardens are terraced with narrow paths winding throughout the mixed borders. The Malthouse has a art expedition as well as a welcoming tea room and excellent facilities. It is worth noting there are steps down into the entrance to the tea room and the car park is situated opposite side of the road to the entrance to the gardens. Also I was able to purchase a book by Margery Fish and take with me a piece of history by purchasing some plants and seeds from the plant collection. I look forward to returning to East Lambrook Gardens again and again. Thankyou for a memorable visit.
Wonderful piece of garden history. Lovely cafe, staff and gardens. Highly recommend
Cottage garden still very much following the design and planting of Margery Fish. Beautiful spring garden with snowdrops, hellebores and daffodils. Coffees, teas and cakes available in the barn. Nursery is well stocked and very good value.
Pretty smallish garden which is packed with plants and plenty to buy from the nursery. Several seats dotted around which are useful for the elderly! Cafe selling drinks and cakes.
An absolute hidden gem! Wonderful cottage gardens to walk around and spend some time appreciating the setting and browsing a lovely selection of plants in the nursery. You'll be spoilt for choice as there is a lovely tea rooms but also a lovely pub opposite... perfect excuse to visit again I suppose!
