This heritage railway runs 12 miles from Rawtenstall to Bury, passing through the picturesque Lancashire countryside. The railway features a collection of vintage locomotives and carriages, offering a nostalgic journey through time. Visitors can enjoy a scenic ride, taking in the sights and sounds of the steam age, while also learning about the region's rich industrial heritage.
I like it so much... I got married here and it was quite possible the best day of my life The railway on any day is absolutely amazing, but if you want a truly special experience then speak to their events team because their events manager Lorna is the best. Well kept trains with polished stations, reasonably priced bars and a fantastic Steam and diesel engine collection. I'd highly recommend the dining with distinction evenings as the food is superb. Highly recommend the buffer stops in Rawtenstall my local pub and a Rawtenstall treasure
Excellent preserved railway running steam and diesel over a decent length line, with multiple trains in operation each day. The line passes through some pleasant countryside as well as ex-industrial areas. There are reasonable catering and beverage options and there are a number if towns to visit or country walks on and around the line. I visited on a diesel day on this occasion and it was excellent value with a large number of interesting locomotives working.
My dear friend and I had the Afternoon Tea, a lovely experience made all the more special by the Pullman carriages being pulled by a steam locomotive. We departed Bolton Street Station at 12.30 the time given on the tickets. The staff helping with boarding were wonderful, so friendly and helpful, anyone who is disabled needn't have any concerns about enjoying the experience. So long as you can use the ramp (if it helps you board) and walk to your seat in the carriage you'll be fine. Book a table near the door.
Went 16 August 2024, with a dining experience. Very chilled and scenic views. The food was excellent, I would highly recommend this back in time experience.
Took the entire family of 10 (4 generations) for a trip on the Stream Train to Rossendale. Great Grandad had a 3 course meal on the Buffet Coach and we had a picnic on the normal carriage. Great day out for us all - highly recommended!
