First time fossil hunting at East Quantoxhead Beach, and it was a great experience! Besutiful coastline and unique rocky terrain. Although we didn't find any specimens to bring home, we did spot several large, beautiful ammonites that are best left on the beach for others to enjoy. The stairs have been fixed and are in good condition, but make sure to check the tide times before heading down. Just a heads up--there are no toilets or facilities, and the nearest parking is at East Quantoxhead car park. Despite the lack of amenities, it's a fantastic spot for fossil enthusiasts!
Awww lovely stony beach with metal steps back to costal path. Carpark in church with honesty box, PS1.50 all day. Cute church and duckpond, 10 min walk to the beach. Single track road from A39. We went mid July early wed morning, was very quiet. Only a few people on the beach. Also walked to Kilve, see my other review. Love this coastline, a little bit of Jurassic pops out just below Bristol. Found some fossils, but more than that, we just love the drama of an ever changing coastline; it is crumbling! Be careful! Not much beach when tide is in, so advise that you check tide times before you go. Sturdy footwear, i.e. walking boots are a must for these beaches, very uneven terrain, great for rock pooling. No loos here, we used the ones at the cafe in Kilne.
Stunning and fascinating beach, go at low tide or when the tide is receding to really enjoy the rocks. Not suitable for dogs or humans with wobbly legs. Handy toilet at the car park: pay on exit via ringo can be tricky with low phone signal.
Lovely walk this morning from East Quantoxhead down to the beach. There are some incredible rock formations along the beach and cliffs.
Fossil hunters' paradise. Incredible landscape of angled stone ledges and huge, shallow rock pools, stunning geology. Pretty village with grassy carpark by duck pond - PS1.50 honesty box. 1/2 mile walk to beach on paths that can be muddy. Turn left at bottom of beach steps and stay close to the cliffs for best fossil finds: huge ammonites in boulders, and very numerous impressions in shale. Take walking boots, whatever the time of year, as the beach is all boulders and quite slow-going. Unsuitable for the elderly or people with mobility issues; a hiking pole is invaluable for negotiating the rough terrain. Watch out for tide times, as the water can cut you off. Take lots of water and sun protection, as there's no shade or facilities on the beach. This place is wild and unforgettable - come suitably prepared and you'll have an amazing time.
Stunning location. The scenery is awesome Geeat walks, wear sturdy footwear!
