This heritage railway runs for 2.5 miles from Cranmore to Mendip Vale, passing through the scenic Mendip Hills in Somerset. The railway features a collection of steam and diesel locomotives, as well as vintage carriages, and offers a nostalgic ride through the picturesque countryside. Visitors can enjoy a return journey, with the option to alight at the intermediate station, Mendip Vale, to explore the surrounding area. The railway also hosts special events throughout the year, including themed trains and Santa specials.
Wow, what a beautiful place to visit for kids and adults. We had the cream tea booked, and the staff could not do enough to help. The cream tea was amazing, with two scones, each with jam and cream. It was roughly an hour down the line and back. You do not need to book the cream tea. You can just have a trip on the train. Check online for what time the train departs. Free parking with a little play park and a cafe. It's worth a visit, and they would love your support .
Was passing nearby and spotted the signs, and what an excellent surprise to find such a gem. Very well run, good value (PS15 each, full access and X2 return journeys included). Spent a couple of hours here, which is the minimum you'll need. Ideally longer if you can ( I was en route to somewhere else...). Sights and smells of the couple of steam engines they had running fantastic, and I mean proper running - not just sitting idle. Highly recommended!!
Very interesting. The museum and the signal box. It has a model shop and cafe. The train ride is only 8 miles round trip, but it does go through some lovely countryside. With a level of comfort modern trains don't have.
What a place! Fab range of activities including the train - which is a short journey along the line, a playground for young children, a fantastic cafe, small shop, toilet facilities and picnic area. It also includes a signal box to enter, workshop area and display boards explaining the site. Fab day out.
Dedicated volunteers keeping a section of our heritage alive. A short but pleasant trip on a historic trainline with lovely views. The cafe serves a good range of food with seating inside and out. Lots to see around the platform area and beyond. Well worth a visit interesting and fun time had.
A hidden gem. This beautiful steam railway takes you back in time meandering through the idyllic Somerset countryside. Good car parking, excellent cafe and wonderfully preserved station all add to the romance. Regular steam services through the summer with cream teas, and other specials. A fabulous afternoon out.
