Ecclesbourne Valley Railway is a 9-mile long heritage railway that runs from Duffield to Wirksworth in Derbyshire, England. The railway features a variety of scenery, including rolling countryside, wooded valleys, and picturesque villages. The railway operates a range of vintage locomotives and carriages, offering passengers a nostalgic and relaxing journey through the Derbyshire countryside.
Lovely trip, a hidden gem. I had never heard of the place until our visit. We visited during a teddy bears picnic event (Eccles the bear joined us on the train and the organisers provided toys for the children). The staff were great onboard, punching our tickets and asking if we'd seen an escaped bear, you could tell they were really passionate about their roles. The carriages were really great to see, we had the chance to get off at Duffield station and get back on board, our ticket allowed us to ride the trains all day. We had the chance to meet Owain who was looking after the miniature model railway, getting it ready for their anniversary, another passionate member of the team, proud of his work and rightly so. Museum, gift shop, cafe on site. We will visit again for another event.
Went on the Live and Let Dine dinner train last night. Hilarious Bond spoof dining experience left us rolling with laughter, and once again the cast excelled themselves. All while enjoying a fine three course dinner exceptionally well presented while travelling through the Derbyshire countryside on a vintage train. Hope there will be future performances.
The visit to the railway was to participate in a Diesel Driver Experience day out. The day was fantastic with a chance to drive a DMU and the 73 electro Diesel. The experience was a full day and extra to the driving experience, we also covered the full length of the line, a shed visit, and a lovely buffet lunch. The guests (1 per trainee) also had the chance to visit the shed, the buffet lunch, and to be a passenger in the dmu. The staff were so friendly. I would highly recommend a visit to the railway, and the driver experience was well worth the fee.
Really interesting and a great day. Drove 2 diesel trains and a tour of the working areas where various loco restorations were under way. Would recommend this as a gif idea for someone, as this was for myself. Recommend this.
An organised 40s experience with singers, displays and vintage vehicles.
Very good preserved railway with a nice cafe serving food and drink. Went for a ride on the train at a very reasonable fare
Wheelchair-accessible car park
Wheelchair-accessible entrance
Getting tickets in advance recommended
Good for kids
