Lovely privately run, characterful, traditional hotel with beautiful wild garden and stunning sea views. Comfy bed, gorgeous bed linen and well appointed bathroom. The bar and lounge is homely and relaxed with extensive books, games and maps available. The food was excellent with menu changing daily and using garden produce and locally sourced ingredients. Staff were all lovely and very efficient. The owner was very helpful with regards local walks and driving routes. There is so much to do in the stunning surrounding area.
Whilst we were not residents at the hotel (we stayed at Eddrachilles House next door) we were lucky enough to enjoy several superb evening meals and breakfasts. Fiona and Richard were wonderful hosts, the food was amongst some of the very best we have had, a different menu each evening it was simply superb. Trevor the resident chef is a master of his trade, every single one of the four evening meals we enjoyed was utterly sublime.
We returned to this hotel after a visit 40 years ago remembering the beautiful views of Badcall Bay and the magnificent scenery in the area. We weren't disappointed.|To make our holiday special our stay for 5 nights at the Edrachilles was relaxing and comfortable.|Fiona and Richard have put such a lot of care into the hotel and we appreciated the many thoughtful touches to make guests feel treasured.|The room we were in had everything you needed with comfy beds, aromatic Highland soaps, bathrobes and local teas and biscuits. The furniture was well designed with lots of drawer space. I loved looking out onto the garden with bird feeders that attracted many birds. I really liked the locally sourced pottery, lamps and mats. We bought some jam and marmalade from the Jammery after tasting this at breakfast.|The menu was different each day and being a vegetarian I appreciated the chef providing fresh and tasty food- mushrooms picked from the local area and some vegetables grown in the polygrub. Also a separate breakfast vegetarian menu.|We sat outside when it was sunny with well situated benches overlooking the ever changing bay view.|On the rainy days we sat in the snug conservatory with a wood burner lit playing on the luxury Scrabble board. The hotel had many books ranging from local history, arctic adventurers, cookery, fiction and more. Local maps, binoculars and games were also there.|The lounge bar was comfortable, sinking into large sofas with a cosy throw if you wanted one.|Complimentary tea and coffee were available on request during the day which I felt was a thoughtful touch and to add even more! scones and cakes in the afternoon.|A good selection of wine was available.|The hotel staff were very helpful and efficient. We definitely want to return again and not 40 years this time!|If you like an original building with history with the added luxury of a small owner run hotel then this is for you.
We want this review to be considered as constructive feedback for the Owners. |We arrived one hour early before the 3pm check-in, this was reflected in the Owners unenthusiastic and rather unwelcoming greeting. |Having completed the usual check-in formality's in the reception (that unfortunately resembled a Doctor's waiting room) we were shown to our room. |No.7 had sea views, was small, with a tiny wardrobe, and a very dated shower room. |Complimentary afternoon tea served at 4pm, was good, although unfortunately in our case we had to ask the Owner for the (missing) clotted cream which was presented in its original plastic packaging, lid still attached. |We then went for a walk in the beautiful gardens. Our supper order had to be made prior to 6pm. When requiring a drink from the bar, one had to find the Owner who seemed to be continually sat in his office. |We enjoyed pre-dinner drinks in the Conservatory which has absolutely outstanding views of Badcall Bay. |We were called through to dinner at our chosen time of 8pm, the restaurant has two separate rooms, one with views of the garden, the other with views of the reception (where we were seated). |Our starter was served immediately without any opportunity of ordering any wine, which was presented after our starter plates had been removed. |Main courses arrived, then a few minutes later the asparagus (with apologies) which the Chef had missed off the top of the fish. |The overall meal was very tasty and reflected good value for money. |The service at dinner was provided by one very hard working and charming Waitress who had to manage all the tables on her own. |A hearty breakfast the next morning was managed again by the same welcoming and enthusiastic waitress. |This property benefits from a fantastic scenic location and great food, but overall, given our experience, we felt that the room charge of PS275 was excessive given that rates in other Highland properties (e.g The Torridon where we stayed in a Stable room the following night) are lower with a much more professional, attentive and most importantly welcoming experience for us as guests.
One of the best Hotel had in all Scotland, after our 4th tour there around.. Amazing position, the structure of the Hotel is charming and perfectly kept, rooms stylish with everything you need. Food: dinner rated 10; breakfast too, an impressive choice of cooked dishes. For what they offer the price is even lower what you can expect. Thank you!
We stayed in this hotel last week and had read some of the reviews before we went and remained open minded. We are glad we did. |The hotel is an old building and quirky. Its decor and furniture represent that and keeps in fitting with the building. The gardens are well maintained and has a lovely walk down to the edge of the loch.|We stayed in room 7 which is a sea view. The room was cosy, warm and the shower was hot which is what you want when being out for a refreshing walk. The bed was very comfortable and the area is so peaceful that we slept really well. |The decor of the hotel in general is very quaint, the bar area is unique with some beautiful furniture. The restaurant was beautiful and the stonework of the interior of this part of the building was lovely. |We unexpectedly received a complementary afternoon tea on the day we arrived. We did not realise this was something the hotel offer. The scones were delicious and this was a lovely treat after our arrival, especially as we had just completed a 5mile walk. We relaxed and enjoyed it in the conservatory admiring the views of the loch.|We had to preorder dinner to ensure a smooth running for the chef. This worked really well and ensured everyone was seated for dinner and served in good time for their meal. The food was DELIGHTFUL! Wow. The chef does an incredible job. The flavours in the food were fantastic. How this hotel does not have a Michelin star is beyond me. The food was fantastic. One of the best meals of the holiday. |We enjoyed after dinner drinks again in the conservatory which was gorgeous watching the colours of the sky change over the loch.|The staff were friendly, the hotel well maintained and we had a thoroughly enjoyable stay.
