Experience the sights, sounds & smells of life on the Home Front & the Front Line. Eden Camp Modern History Museum is a unique museum based on an original Prisoner of War Camp just outside Malton. The museum actively preserves history, heritage and the personal stories of those who experienced WW2. The museum also acts as a memorial for family members and generations to visit and commemorate. Through donations or loans of artefacts, the museum upholds a duty of care for all items; agreeing to preserve, restore and display the memories bestowed in trust. Through digital expansion, the museum is extending its educational benefits online through a digital archive, and a virtual tour of the site. Head to the website to find out more!
This is a fantastic museum keeping WWII history alive in the very fitting environment of a former, Italian POW camp. The exhibitions are reviewed and periodically changed/updated as required. It is great for all the family, regardless of age with different subject matter for each hut/exhibit. Some exhibits also have QR codes to enhance your experience and find out further information. The site is easy to get to, and easy to park at. It is accessible to pushchairs and wheelchairs and their is accessible parking available. Staff are friendly and the cafe/gift shop are reasonably efficient, with plenty of seating for the former. A great experience.
What a way to emerse you in the history of not only WW2 but more modern conflicts. You are able to view and smell the time of war. It is done in a sensitive way, showing how life was like. Great interactive sections for people of all ages throughout the 22 huts which have been individually created to showcase a section of time or about people of the regiments. A great way to educate and showcase that time period, but also to act as a remembrance to those who suffered or lost their lives. The staff and the volunteers are amazing. Mac the weapons expert was amazing. His knowledge and expertise imparting this to all ages was fantastic. He's a credit to the museum.
An excellent day out. It's very well laid out so you don't miss any exhibits going through the numbered huts. The staff were really friendly and happy to answer any questions. The information is quite detailed in places so you could spend the whole day without impatient children, but there's enough to keep them interested too and some fun games provided and plenty of picnic space/seating. The only downside is queuing in your car to buy entry tickets, but I guess this is due to logistics. There are swallows nesting in the ventilation panels to some huts completely tolerant of visitors.
Fantastic place, lots to see and do. Couldn't pay online and very disappointing lady on gate needed to see extensive evidence of disability for free carer place - blue badge, PIP and letter from GP. After all that the disabled parking bays were not wide enough to open car door and get wheelchair to side of car. Had to park well away from entrance to enable car to wheelchair transfer. Cafe- lovely food, staff friendly and helpful
Fantastic museum! We spend about 2 hrs there but easily could have done a whole day! Cafe looked great but we took packed lunch! Was PS2 cheaper each if booked online! Loads for kids to do also. The interactive huts were fantastic and the blitz one really hit home. 100% recommend. If any recommendation I would say to pop some tissues into the chapel as it's very poignant and I shed many tears. 10/10 for us
My first visit and oh boy I wasn't disappointed. What a fantastic place with a great history itself. The exhibitions were brilliant, the time, effort and artifacts are mesmerising. Thank you and carry on the great work on preserving our history
