One of Scotland's most iconic and most recognisable castles set in the majestic NW highlands on the road to the Isle of Skye. Featured in many movies including most famously, the original "Highlander" as well as "The World is Not Enough" and "Made of Honour". Visitors have the opportunity to cross the famous bridge and enjoy exploring much of the castle's interiors. For those wishing to stay in the area a little longer, you can even stay at the recently launched Eilean Donan Apartments, situated just across the loch and commanding spectacular views of the castle and the surrounding area.
"Eilean Donan Castle" is one of the most beautiful attractions around the Isle of Skye. Its typical shape, which seems on a precarious balance of a cliff, looks really peculiar from a distance. Internally it is a typical Scottish castle with plenty of Tartan carpets on floors and rooms showing a great example of traditional design. It was completely rebuilt after a bombing, but it still seems like an original old castle. A must if you are in the area.
Eilean Donan Castle is absolutely magical. Nestled on its own small island where three lochs meet, the castle is as picturesque as it gets. The views are stunning, and the castle's rich history is captivating. Inside, the rooms are beautifully restored, giving you a sense of life in a medieval Scottish stronghold. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, making the visit even more enjoyable. This iconic castle is a must-visit if you're in the Scottish Highlands--it's an experience that feels like stepping into a storybook.
The castle is in excellent condition and is set in a wonderful position. I would advise to plan your visit away from busy times as it gets very busy and at times too many people are trying to view the same part of the castle at one time thus it can get a bit annoying. The castle inside is really a stately home and not a castle as such so don't expect walks along battlements or around traditional towers, you walk through bedrooms, the kitchen and a wonderful dinning room that would suit the king. It has a working portcullis which is cool. The carpark is pay and display which is not too expensive but you also have to pay to enter the castle which is expensive. PS12 per adult or PS3.50 if you just want to walk around the outside only. It is worth visiting as it is a splendid place but be prepared to pay and queue.
This is one of Scotland's most iconic and picturesque castles, and it truly lives up to its reputation. Set on a small island where three lochs meet, the castle offers breathtaking views and a fairy-tale setting that is perfect for photography and exploration. Eilean Donan Castle is a must-visit for anyone travelling through the Scottish Highlands. Its combination of historical significance, stunning architecture, and breathtaking location make it an unforgettable destination. Highly recommended!
Absolutely stunning. I have decided I think I would like my wedding here one day. Such a Beautiful castle. You cannot take food in so get food before or after. There are plenty of food options for you to take your pick from just outside the entrance, where you can purchase tickets at the machines if needed.
A historical castle I visited when exploring Highlands. Rebuilt in 1900s but the history is deep and rewind back to 700 years prior to that. The staff are friendly and will answer your questions if the written explanation in the castle is unclear. The most interesting part of the castle for me personally is the ghosts story. I could definitely feel the vibe when I was there. We need to pay 12 pounds to enter the castle but I think overall it's worth it.
