This 18th-century tide mill, located in the picturesque village of Eling, Hampshire, is a rare and fascinating piece of industrial heritage. The mill, which dates back to 1772, is one of the few remaining tide mills in the UK and is still in working order. Visitors can explore the mill's interior, learning about its history and witnessing the ancient technology that harnesses the power of the tide to grind grain into flour. The mill's tranquil setting, surrounded by the River Eling and the Hampshire countryside, adds to its charm.
Lucky to have beautiful weather; perfect short walk if you have young ones and a buggy! Parked in the Ealing car park which is free (toll Bridge is only PS1) and then walked all the way round the mill pond and over Bartley water. Ended at the cafe - the ladies in here were so lovely! Food was simple but tasty and just what we needed (I have a 6yr old and a 21 month old). Then walked to Goatee beach and played there for a while. Lovely day out with the family
The cafe here is excellent ..we had a walk around the boardwalk and then popped into the cafe for a coffee. Great service, allows dogs, vegan and vegetarian options. We were delighted with the vegan lemon and blueberry cake, delicious and the vegan KitKat's. Gluten free cakes also available. Will certainly be back for another visit
Enthralling story of food production in times gone by. Well presented tour around the Mill and its machinery and an absorbing museum hall across the street with working models and detailed explanations of the Mill's fascinating history. One of only two working tide mills in the country. A tempting Cafe rounds off a great place for a family to visit. Even the dogs enjoyed it.
It is a lovely old mill and it is interesting looking around but there is not the information in the mill to make it an exeptional visit . If you have ever been to the mill at Winchester there is no comparison. The visitor centre over the road is nice but only small but has lots of information. I think if the mill had some more info and displays about history it would make it better. The area is lovely and there is a nice cafe attached to the visitor centre which is worth a visit even if you do not go in the mill. There is also a nice pub down the road and lots of lovely walks around the area which make a lovely day out .
Nice day out. The Mill has undergone major renovation. Very interesting History, not just the mill but local area too. A 10 second walk across the road is the mills nicely priced cafe and an activity/history room all part of the same ticket. Lovely walk round the large mill pond and shore front. Local pubs on both sides of the water and church. Well worth the visit.
A beautifully restored mill with excellent Visitors' Centre. Plus cafe where beans on toast can be had for PS2.50!
