Beautiful and historic Ellon Castle Gardens, set right in the heart of Ellon. While the old Ellon Castle dates back to the 15th century, the Gardens reached their current size in the early 18th century and in their time, were some of the finest in Scotland. They contain a unique collection of ancient English yews thought to be at least 500 years old. It was until recently a "secret" walled garden belonging to Ellon Castle and unknown to many of the residents of the town. It was gifted to the community of Ellon as part of a planning gain arrangement and is now administered by Ellon Castle Gardens Trust. See website for info on opening times, events and memberships.
This is really a little bit of a hidden gem in Ellon (only recently opened to the public in 2019), only a very short walk from nearest busstopp with good connections from Aberdeen. Gardens are fairly large and secluded behind a garden wall. The blossoming flowers gives the gardens a nice aroma and birdsong from the trees it's really nice. Highly recommend a visit for a nice picnick or just to get away from the hustle. At time of the visit there where not many around, so really enjoyed the piece and quiet. The castle is now a ruin, though attractive where it overarches the gardens. Gardens are kept by volunteers, who have extensive knowledge of the castles long history. There are several cafes near by in Ellon that are also worth a visit.
Absolutely loved visiting this hidden gem in Ellon for the 1st time. Beautiful gardens, fantastic to see so many bees and butterflies. The smell of the roses in the rose garden was gorgeous. Will definitely visit again.
Fantastic little oasis of greenery near the centre of Ellon with the added attraction of the castle ruins looming over the gardens .we went as part of a local craft fair so it was great seeing so many people enjoying what is not a well known area
I absolutely love this place. It is so much fun with the family. You can let the kids roam freely, they have toys for them and toilets. The yearly membership price for a family is only PS25. Totally worth it. The best thing about the place is that it protects you from the wind. The events, like Halloween and the theater plays in the summer are can't miss events.

Well worth a visit. Will return when it is a bit quieter.
