1930s art deco house with a medieval great hall & ornamental gardens with picnic & play areas.
Great place to visit, quite expensive though. I took my own packed lunch and I'm glad I did. The queue for the tea room was very long! I so love looking at old and interesting places and this didn't disappoint. The gardens are lovely and I found a lone bench to rest on and eat my lunch. Beware the gift shop on the way out
Eltham Palace holding centuries of history with well kept remains and grounds, offering visitors a fascinating journey through time. It's history started in 1089 when small part of building constructed and after that it was keep extending and getting bigger and bigger. The palace features medieval origins alongside later Tudor additions even King Henry Viii spent most of his childhood time here. This place providing a rich backdrop for exploring England's heritage. It's last construction was 1930 when the family who bought this place, made their home with 1930s modern art interior. Though it's a great house next to great hall from medieval times. Surrounding the palace, the beautiful landscape and gardens. Waterside lake around the palace, fishes, birds and colorful flower beds that invite leisurely strolls and peaceful moments. After passing hands from bishops, royal family, army and many more, English Heritage took control of it to retouch it and bring its beauty back. Eltham Palace doors open for public in 2015. Btw I didn't much enjoy my visit even though there's a history.
A surprisingly great place to visit. Being where it is I really wasn't expecting there to be very much here on our visit, but have to confess to being very surprised. All of the staff were great , informative & very helpful. Everything was very clean & very well maintained. Parking I could definitely imagine might be an issue here when it's very busy but was completely fine for our visit. Would be more than happy to visit again in the future.
It was a great place to visit and under one hour from London. The palace and the history behind it transformed from the palace that it was in ruins into a beautiful state home with all the latest cons. I visited in the afternoon, which it was quiter and I had a walk in the gardens. Overall, it was a great day out. There is a cafe on the grounds with plenty of parking.
This a beautiful building and gardens. So much history to the place. Henry V111 grew up here as a boy and then it was privately renovated in the 30s. I came across a superb volunteer guide called David. He was a lovely man, informative and fun. Good cafe children's play area and plenty of parking.
Absolutely spectacular. I went here for the first time on a warm summer day. I can't imagine why I haven't visited before. I found some of the staff, especially in the shop, a little less than helpful. I didn't let that spoil my day. The guides were really friendly, and I was wowed by the amazing architecture of this building. I have always preferred the Art Deco period over others. This is exactly the property I would have chosen to own if I had a choice. There was so very many rooms to explore, all beautifully restored. And I lost myself in its splendour. I could have spent all day here! I will definitely visit again soon. It didn't stop at the house. The grounds were amazing, and I'm certain I didn't explore everything. Sadly the cafe was closed so that's something else to return for. I can't rave enough about this place. See it for yourself. I'm certain you won't be disappointed.
