We found this in an app called all trails and I have to say it was an amazing hike well worth the 3 hours round trip with the most beautiful views.
Great walk. It's only about a mile to the top if you park in the free carpark by Embsay Reservoir. Rocky, stony paths are most of the way up, with a short bit of clambering, or mud tracks. My three year old niece managed to walk pretty much all the way up so it's also a great starter hill for kids.
Hiking area. Took the path up from the reservoir by the sailing club. Followed uphill along the woods to the left. Easy to moderate hiking paths with fantastic views from the top. Well marked paths. Open moorland with some interesting rocks and waterfalls (if it has been raining). Good place to take kids as not too hard. Car park is free, no toilets.
Initially planned to go Bolton Abbey however as the car park closed at 5:30 and the park itself closes at 7 we decided to change plans towards Embsay Crag. Amazing hike which you can complete within 25mins, suitable to take children alongside! There is car parking available which is free. There are a few benches scattered around the trail.
Moderate one mile walk with great views on the reservoir from the top. Takes less than half an hour to get to the top from the reservoir but the views are so rewarding.
Absolutely loved this walk, and the reservoir and views to the dales are awesome. Lots of geese and guls on the reservoir. Brilliant place.
