This 12th-century Augustinian priory is one of the best-preserved monastic sites in England. The priory's architecture is a mix of Romanesque and Gothic styles, with a striking church featuring a tall, narrow nave and a beautiful chapel dedicated to St. Olave. The peaceful cloisters and chapter house have been restored to their original medieval appearance, giving visitors a glimpse into the lives of the monks who once lived here. The priory's tranquil atmosphere and picturesque surroundings make it a serene oasis in the midst of a bustling city.
Nice little 13th century priory with a bit of history, free to visit with parking by the restaurant and lots of nearby walking trails.
Lovely tucked away part of history that has been well preserved in this quiet little area. We visited around one o'clock on a sunny day and only saw a few other people. It's a quiet place and has a peaceful atmosphere. The entrance to get it may be a little confusing as you have to park in the entrance to a private property labelled as a camp site and cafe. From there, walk straight down the road you drive down to the parking and turn right. On the other side of the fence where an alpaca will be, follow the path next to the brick wall all the way to the bottom and you will find the entrance, it's a small gate. The place is clean and perfect for something to do that isn't time consuming.
Lovely heritage site, this is a beautiful 14th century brick-vaulted refectory undercroft-later a cottage occupied until 1902 - of a small Augustian priory. There is also a nearby restaurant, which you can buy food and drink.
Interesting historical site well preserved over hundreds of years. Impressed with the priory. We're suprised that such an important monument isn't better sign posted from the road.
Nice to have a look around, access can easily be missed, couldn't actually see inside the rectory which is the most intact part of the priory because you have to get the key from someone down the street.
This is an interesting English Heritage site. Look out for the signs to the Priory farm restaurant next door or you will miss the finger post to the Priory. Stone vaulted ceilings are worth a visit but you wont be spending much time visiting.
Good for kids
