This 18th-century Georgian country house boasts an impressive facade with a grandiose entrance, ornate stonework, and symmetrical wings. The interior features opulent decor, including intricate plasterwork, ornate fireplaces, and lavish furnishings. The hall's history is steeped in scandal and intrigue, having been built for the infamous Scarsdale family, known for their lavish spending and questionable morals. Today, visitors can explore the hall's grand rooms, including the impressive staircase, and discover the stories of the family's tumultuous past.
Free to visit English Heritage property, extensive shell from a Georgian era mansion with fantastic views across the valley towards Bolsover Castle. Lovely place for a picnic or to take the dog for a walk.
An English heritage property now open after remedial work to stabilise and make safe. It is free to enter, there is no shop, toilets or cafe. The building itself is a ruin with spectacular views over to bolsover Castle. Although there are info boards they are scattered and are pretty thin on the ground. Overall interesting but wouldn't visit again.
No longer fenced off, so you are able to wander around most of the ruin. Must have been an amazing place in its day and very evocative now. Little things, like small bits of tiling that are left, hint at what was once there. Could do with a few more interpretation boards, but then it is free to explore, so can't complain!
One of my favourite places and even better now the fences are down & repairs completed. Some people don't like the idea that it's a ruin, but I like it because of that & if weren't a ruin people probably wouldn't be free to wander around. Gorgeous views over towards Bolsover Castle and there is a fantastic example of a haha - just don't fall into it.
Great to wander around on a sunny day. Great view and interesting ruins. Free entry and parking as well. Can see Belover Castle from here.
Lovely little walk round was flat and easy torh a toddler trike. It's Ben well maintained The views are breathtaking The trees in the wooded part have character to them . We even saw a bat out in the middle of the day. Odd but nice to see Makes a change to go to a place where people take there rubbish home with them No ticket needed
Wheelchair-accessible car park
Good for kids
