Eye Castle is a 15th-century fortified manor house located in the village of Eye, Suffolk, England. The castle features a unique blend of medieval and Tudor architectural styles, with a mix of stone, brick, and timber-framed structures. The building is surrounded by a moat, which is now dry, and features a large gatehouse, towers, and battlements. The castle's interior boasts ornate wood paneling, decorative plaster ceilings, and grand fireplaces. The property also includes a chapel, a courtyard, and extensive gardens.
I've lived within 10 miles of Eye for over 70 years and this was my first visit to Eye castle. I struggled to find the access, but after walking around met a very helpful chap who told me all about it and much more. I learned it's a Folly, but what a place. It's a must visit, well looked after and the view of Eye is brilliant.
No tickets needed nice place for a picnic view was fantastic not suitable for disabled climbing !!! Involved but not necessary
What a gem! Tucked away in a peaceful spot without all the usual bells and whistles, signage, and coffee shops! Wooden steps (and there are a LOT of them) up to the top of the castle and glorious panoramic views of the surrounding hamlet and countryside.
Great venue for events like outside plays, picnics and home to part of the current bench trail. Plenty of space for kids to play in the grounds but a good number of steps to the castle ruins itself. Check times out before your visit as it is often locked up in winter months and over night. Free to enter unless a play or event is taking place.
Not an impressive castle but Interesting to see a Mott and Batley castle
A little gem well hidden and not easy to find, but worth the visit with stunning views. Just a shame that people drop litter and leave dog mess around such an historic site.
Good for kids
