Ancient woodland with over 3.5 miles of paths and a private broad. Tearoom, gift shop, bird hides, children's nature trail and plant sales area, plus a programme of events all year. Accessible to visitors with disabilities. Visit in the spring to see the UK's finest collection of candelabra primulas as well as primroses, bluebells, wood anemones, rhododendrons and azaleas. Summer brings Hydrangeas and Philadelphus and many wild flowers. The garden is great for birdwatching, and there are lots varieties of fungi in autumn. Winter walks are good for spotting kingfishers, deer and otters. Boat trips run from April to the end of October (additional charge payable on arrival ).
What an amazing place! We had a wonderful woodland walk and then took a boat ride, all with our 15 month old puppy. He hadn't been on a boat before but our skipper, Jane, was so welcoming and lovely with him. The boat ride was informative and a relaxing experience. We saw so many birds, the waterways are stunning. Will definitely return when in the area. Jane, thanks for making a pups first boat experience a positive one, we really appreciated everything you did to help him and us feel at ease.
While initially not appearing to offer too much for the entrance fee it soon became clear that there was plenty to be found here in terms of multiple tranquil walks, waterways and views of their own Broad. We had a brilliant and informative boat trip with Jane who was lovely and made sure our dog was at ease for his first boat trip! The whole site is very dog friendly, while the cafe will not allow dogs inside there are so many extra touches for them to be outside including dog beds! Spent 3 hours here and could easily have stayed longer.
Really lovely walks and quiet peaceful location. Good paths with regular maps and signposts to follow. Large sitting out area, plenty of room for kids. Dog friendly.
Loved it! Had planned to go to another venue but they didn't allow dogs. Searched for somewhere and up popped Fairhaven. At first it felt like driving into a school car park. Parking is free. Yes free! It wasn't busy when we arrived (but when we left it was busy). Entry through the shop. Greeted by a lovely gentleman who explained everything to us, even the dog poo pack for picking up mess. Boat excursion times were fully explained with several times to catch a boat around the broads. There was bags of duck food for sale which we regretted not buying. As soon as you are through the shop there were ducks. Everywhere there were ducks and moorhens. If you are taking your dog and they react to our feathered friends use a short lead or you will be constantly yelling at your dog. Dogs must be kept on a lead. Lovely, clearly marked walk ways. The map was slightly off or missing sections but that was ok as we were not in a rush. Toilets through the cafe. Although dogs not permitted inside the cafe there is a serving hatch if just you and pooch so you don't miss out. Seating area around the cafe with dog beds or two cabins on the lower area after the ramp. Food lovely and hot chocolate divine!!!! Luckily I had a large HC. There are also dog beds for your tired pooch to snooze in while you refuel. Highly recommend a visit. Great for kids of all ages. Just be careful by the water. There are some hidden water areas so don't leave kids unattended. Probably my favourite excursion of the week!
Spent a full day at Fairhaven this past week, starting with breakfast in the cafe which is conveniently located near to the entrance. Good choice of breakfast items, the coffee latte was excellent and reasonably priced. I booked the 50min boat trip so we headed out to the quay, arriving 5 mins before scheduled departure at noon. Our skipper was very pleasant, taking care of our safety and narrating all points of interest during the cruise past Benet's Abbey. This was a relaxing trip which children could also enjoy. We found the gardens to be well looked after with some beautiful views as we walked around the well signposted routes. All in all, a very enjoyable day out, loved every minute - highly recommended.
A lovely place to walk through the dappled sun when it's too hot. Some really impressive trees and it's nice to see some continual improvements to bridges, walkways and the quayside.
