Farfield Mill is a space to celebrate creativity and heritage. Housed in a former Victorian Woollen Mill over four floors, learn about the history of the Mill, see open artists' studios and beautiful gallery spaces exhibiting and selling a range of contemporary art and craft.
Great place. Something for everyone. Loved the historical displays and all the studios selling a cornucopia of items. But! Why are there birds from Bali on sale here. Strange ! Thanx Ps the cafe is very good
Interesting to read and see history of mill Fabulous artisan crafts. Reasonable prices. Lovely cafe. Friendly staff
Wonderful little cafe. Fantastic food. We needed to wait for a table to become available but it was with the wait.
We came across this art and craft centre by chance, having taken a wrong turn, which proved to be fortunate as we thoroughly enjoyed the arts and crafts on several floors at this converted mill. There is a lift, making things a lot easier for those with mobility issues. The shop was really good and the tearoom was pleasant. For anyone with an interest in art and craft it is well worth a visit.
Really excellent place to visit if you are in the least bit interested in art, local culture. or history. Absolutely wonderful way to spend the morning or afternoon. You can see some of the artist working if you're lucky and come at the right time and they're happy to talk to you as well about their art. Really immersive experience. The cafe is also very nice although I only had a small snack, and a tea, the food did look good. Visiting from Canada
Lovely place to visit. The mill is a mile or two outside the beautiful little town of Sedbergh and there is a country walk from the town to the mill. Inside the mill is lots of information about the history of the building, it's owners and workers as well as live weaving demonstrations and a chance to try it out yourself. It's set over 4 floors with lift and stairs access, floors 2 and 3 were mainly work and display areas for artists and crafts people who rent space in the building. Lovely tea room/ cafe on the bottom floor serves hot and cold drinks as well as snacks, small meals and a range of homemade cakes. This can be accessed directly if you don't want to do the mill itself and just outside the door to the cafe is a picturesque view of the river that once powered the machinery. There is no charge for entering the mill but they do ask for donations.
