We are open Fridays and Saturdays and other days, see opening hours. The museum is dedicated to the History of Faversham. There is no entrance charge. There is a children's trail and activities. An introductory display is followed by several rooms on different periods. There are also exhibitions on the historic industries of Faversham; Gunpowder and Explosives, Brick Making, Ship Building, Hop Picking and Agriculture. Don't miss our working historic (1950s) Strowager telephone exchange - watch the operation of the selectors and relays as you dial a call. You can make your own way round the museum, or the Volunteers can help you find your way and explain exhibits.
Fantastic museum free entry though donations are welcomed. Larger than you might think. Lots of interesting displays covering history from the Roman times to present day. Definitely worth another visit.
Absolute gem of a museum - it's not very big, but packs lots in and is completely free to visit (donations appreciated!). The museum follows the history of Faversham from Roman times through to modern day. Lots of hands on exhibits and activities for children - very family friendly. Volunteers are eager to interact and answer questions, and really are a credit to the museum. Our favourite exhibit was the working telephone exchange where we had an interesting chat with a volunteer who used to work in one. My son was fascinated with the workings of the machinery and the volunteer was very patient in explaining everything and allowing him to try out all the phones. Would allow 1-2 hours for your visit - you could see it all in an hour but two hours will give you more time to interact/do activities. Very clean, free toilets on site.
Fascinating spot full of interesting artifacts and staff who show clear passion and joy about their hometown and its history
Very interesting collection of local memorabilia. Gives a nice overview of Faversham from the beginning. Some child friendly areas and a. Second floor of costume and household artifacts. Guided tours are available. All free. Staff are friendly and helpful.
A friendly welcome to a volunteer led museum, with large variety of exhibits, alongside the serious history. The trail through the museum worked well. We enjoyed the way the exhibits were grouped. In all a very interesting visit.
I really enjoyed our visit, we particularly wanted to see the ancient copy of the Magna Carta, and wasn't disappointed, we had a guided tour by a very knowledgeable member of the team, called Graham making our visit all the more interesting.
