Fishguard Fort is a 18th-century fortification situated on a hill overlooking Fishguard Bay in Wales. The fort was built in 1782 to defend against French invasion and features a circular battery with six guns, a magazine, and a guardhouse. It is one of the best-preserved fortifications of its kind in the UK. The fort's walls are constructed from local limestone and its design is typical of the era, with a ditch and glacis surrounding the fort. Today, Fishguard Fort is a popular tourist attraction and a significant historical landmark in Wales.
Gorgeous views over fishguard. Only about a 2 minute walk from the car park, which has enough room for a handful of cars. The car park is free of charge, which is a bonus. You can easily get lost in the peaceful scenery. The kids loved it! Also access to the coastal walk from the car park.
Cute little fort. Can visit on person or see on coastal path to lower Harbour. :)
It's a hidden gem , 5 minutes walk from main carpark through a beautiful pathway , the place is peaceful, scenetic and historic
Small free car park with a path that leads to the fort, great views from the fort
A small fort just outside Fishguard with terrific views out to sea. Easy access from the car park just over five minutes away although it is uphill on the way back. Several old cannons in place and according to the information board housed searchlights during WW2.
Well worth the 1/4 mile walk from the car park. I'm not great on my feet but it was easy enough, especially when the sun came out to make the views even more beautiful.
Wheelchair-accessible entrance
Good for kids
