A 17th-century thatched cottage on South Uist in the Outer Hebrides, Scotland, where Flora MacDonald, the Jacobite heroine who helped Bonnie Prince Charlie escape, lived with her husband Allan MacDonald. The humble whitewashed cottage features a thatched roof, stone walls, and a small garden, offering a glimpse into the simple life of the MacDonald family.
Loved our visit here to Floras house as we are descendants of the MacDonald clan and found this very very touching to visit
A great historic sight with excellent scenery.
Make sure that you close the wood gate with the rope over the entrance into the ruins of the house! A cow got stuck in there today so I let her out and then secured the gate again. I had heard at the local museum that there was a cow inside the walls but no one thought to let her out. Otherwise, not much to see. Signage is not readable any longer. This place could use some love and maintenance.
Road in is awful, signage is unreadable. Only worth visiting for historical value. Potential to be a very good spot though.
Not a great deal to see but an interesting info board
Flora MacDonald's birthplace feels a bit neglected. The story board is since long faded, not possible to read. Stone monument intact though and the view gives you an ide a about growing up in such a place.
Good for kids
