Foel Drygarn Hill Fort is an Iron Age hillfort situated in the Brecon Beacons National Park, Wales. The fort is nestled on a hilltop, surrounded by steep slopes, and features a complex of earthworks, including a series of banks and ditches. The fort's defenses are impressive, with multiple ramparts and a gateway on the eastern side. Archaeological excavations have revealed evidence of occupation from the 7th century BC to the 1st century AD, with finds including Iron Age pottery and Roman coins. The site offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside, making it a popular destination for hikers and history enthusiasts alike.
A beautiful place, with plenty of trails to walk and unique landmarks. I went on a warm evening and it was very quiet a great place to escape if you want to unwind. There is a small layby to park in opposite the track that leads to the edge of the moors, I could imagine this filling up fast in peak season making parking a bit of an issue. Take a good pair of walking boots as it can get boggy in places and there is a mixture of terrain.
A pleasant walk and it was good to get to the hill fort site and cairns
I visited the old Fort for the first time since I was a toddler, and the views/scenery took my breath away. It is a steep trek up the hill, but the view at the top is absolutely stunning. We went up just before sunset, and had absolutely stunning views of the sun and the surroundings in the low light, it was really quite moving and beautiful. There are lots of trails that lead onwards from the fort, and you could easily continue onto the next hills. A great place to visit for some history and some amazing views.
Very enjoyable not to strenuous walk up to the trig point was short on light so didn't manage the whole carn menyn range
Lovely hill walk, you can go miles over the moorland. Views are fantastic.....gard to find where to access the pathway.
Nothing as such to see at the top, just an OS marker and a pile of rocks, but the view is lovely and the heath flowers growing on the hill are a lovely sea of purple and red. Took about 25 mins to walk from the layby to the top. The field on the way up is full of sheep, so the grass is short and there isn't much mud.
Wheelchair-accessible car park
