Fonthill Lake is magical at the moment with the vivid blue lake water, it's like you're in the Carribbean. The water colour is a natural phenomena created by the springs that feed the lake. Park in the layby on the road that passes the lakeside, this layby is about 1/2 after entering the grand entrance off the B3089. Once parked, take the lakeside path south to the Hydro Dam, a lovely spot for a picnic. What's nice about this place, is it's still pretty unknown, so even on the warm bank holiday weekend, there aren't masses of people about.

It does give some nice views over the lake and a little walk down to the hydro generator, you can go on through the woods on the public footpath. Parking is a pain in the posterior it's limited or you can join everyone else and park on the road half on the the verge.

A beautiful lake with stunning views all round. A great place to sketch, walk or picnic(in summer), year round.

You can't access much of the lakeside, but where you can it's very pretty.
