A unique historic family home surrounded by 33 acres of award-winning gardens. With the highest powered fountain in the country and topiary lined vistas, colourful herbaceous borders, an arboretum, a bog garden, and swathes of early Spring bulbs and camellias to provide all year round interest. The Abbey has a rich and varied history spanning 900 years, and is home to the stunning Mortlake tapestries, woven from the internationally famous Raphael cartoons, now housed in the V&A. Together, with a popular plant nursery, tea rooms, kitchen garden and gift shop, it is a South West gem and a wonderful day out. Please note the House is CLOSED on a Saturday and Monday.
What a beautiful place to visit. The abbey itself was lovely with very helpful staff and documents to assist in knowing bits and pieces. The gardens are so gorgeous. Well worth a wander on a lovely day. Can't wait to come back for another visit in another season. The cream teas was lovely and with the money.
Lovely gardens to explore. The fountain was impressive and the spray provided some much needed respite from the oppressive heat. There's a challenge for children to find the bird boxes an collect ten stamps and ten letters. It's a great way to explore the gardens and see all they have to offer. The house is interesting and worth a visit. Staff are helpful, informative and friendly.
We were welcomed and given advice by the very helpful staff. The gardens are breathtakingly beautiful. The house was lovely with very helpful and knowledgeable staff. There are clean, well looked after toilets. The cafe is spacious with a limited selection of tasty food and a good selection of beverages. It was a wonderful day out and I highly recommend it.
Beautiful historic place and Gardens. Lots to see inside the house, and extensive grounds and gardens to wall around and enjoy a tranquil day out in nature. Here can be found the highest pumped fountain I'm UK.
Beautiful garden on a beautiful day The borders were looking amazing, hard work paying off in grand style. The fountain, as always, is great entertainment for those of us who have been before Loving the Alice in Wonderland characters, a lovely touch. Especially loved Alice & the Cheshire Cat.
