Family break: Parents, 3 older children (mid-twenties) a teen and the family Pup, a good time was had by all. |We stayed in Silver Birch (no.33) set back off drive and so not overlooked. |The lodge was beautiful, spacious and clean. |The kitchen was small but well equipped with dishes, pans and utensils, the only thing I needed that wasn't there was a set of tongs. |There was plenty of space in the Lounge area and on the corner sofa for everyone to relax and play some games (not provided) after a long day adventuring! |The hot tub was gorgeous and probably one of the nicest we have been in, there was lots of space and you could feel it reheating whilst sat in it and so it never seemed to go cold!! Amazing!!||The shop was pricey but well equipped and the cafe/bar was nice to wander down to and enjoy a drink, early evening. The staff were always friendly and welcoming too! ||We hired bikes (PS18 for 24hours) and had some great fun riding around the forest on these! ||We booked Aqua Chip at Delamere Lake, Wild-shore and although is was a bit chilly that day, everyone who took part enjoyed it. | |We have stayed at several Hoseasons lodges but I think that this was the best for Luna (our dog), you're just seconds from being able to let her run around off lead and she could safely run around the deck playing fetch whilst we enjoyed the hot tub. ||Negatives: The showers were poor and desperately needed updating, the water was a gentle mist at best, although pressure from the taps was great!? |You couldn't screen share from your iPad to TV without topping up your TV package (PS45!) and the kitchen really needed a tumble dryer for the copious amount of wet clothes and towels handing around the place! ||In summary: those that like adventure can easily access it from here. For those that like more gently exercise, there are walks for all abilities and those that want a more relaxing break, there are lots of local pubs with good food (Fishpool, yummy!), the holiday park cafe/bar for food and drinks and the hot tub to laze about in and take in the scenery.
We spent nearly PS3,200 on what turned out to be a highly disappointing 5 day stay, and sadly, we won't be returning to Forest Holidays again. While the location and lodges are visually nice, several issues marred our experience.||- Upon arrival at lodge 66 (the same one we stayed in previously), everything seemed fine at first, but when I tried adjusting the temperature as the rooms seemed a little cold, the in-wall display crashed multiple times. (It did this 12 months prior too!) I eventually realised the heating had to be controlled through the wall thermostats.||- The hot tub was great, but after a couple of days we noticed the towel rail also wasn't working, leaving our towels damp for days.||- We ate in for our first two lunches, unfortunately having to resort to opening a can of soup with a carving knife as there was no tin opener provided.||- We logged a maintenance call for the towel rails not working and asked the guy to also check the heating, fix a broken toilet seat and if we could have a tin opener! Despite mentioning these items, only some of our concerns were addressed, the house was still cold (even when set to 24 degrees) and the tin opener never arrived despite our requests. ||- On the third day, the hot tub was drained and refilled, rendering it unusable for the day (that's 20% of our stay!) I can't understand why this isn't this done during the changeover between guests.||- Also, the tablet drawer on the dishwasher was broken but it appeared to work ok so we left this. Strange that things like this are not picked up on cleaning/maintenance visits. ||- Despite us paying extra for premium Wi-Fi and TV we would often get a "something went wrong" message on the TV so we were unable to watch what we wanted. ||- To make matters worse, the route around the site and the drive leading to it are poorly maintained, with numerous bumps and potholes - this is also a lot worse than it was 12 months ago). On the 4th day we ended up spending 4 hours at Kwikfit in Chester getting a punctured tyre replaced caused by the rough terrain.||Given that my wife has terminal cancer and can't travel abroad, our UK getaways are incredibly precious to us. This trip was not only deeply disappointing but also terrible value for the amount we paid - nearly PS3,200, not to mention the cost of a new tyre.||Forest Holidays, I urge you to reach out to let me know how I can escalate this into a formal complaint. This experience was far from acceptable, especially considering the significant cost.
We had a fantastic stay at Delamere Forest Lodges the lodge was first class and the architecture bringing the outside in was a real treat during the week, superb location for exploring a lot of fantastic activities for kids Chester zoo, wilder wood, the Croft trail and Gullivers world are all within a 30min drive Higly recommended if I was going again only change I'd make would be to pay extra for a cabin on the outer ring with. A bit more privacy great place
The Pros: Beautiful location, cabin fairly nicely set up, can cast apps on TV like netflix/ prime which is handy. The bed was comfortable with nice white bedding, and has a throw and some pillows for decoration. Booking in was easy, the reception staff were friendly and informative, the cabins have the jacuzzi to the back for privacy, and it's checked daily by staff. ||There's also a nice cafe, with a handy little shop within the site. ||Reasons for 2/3 star:||It's expensive for what it is, you don't get any cleaning service, you are expected to take your own rubbish out (which they do not provide any additional bin liners for the duration of your stay). No real amenities provided (no shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, although small soap block and small shower gel bottle is provided, also there is toilet roll, but its not restocked and we did run out). The company advertised that you risk upto a PS250 fine if the cabin is not left in a clean and tidy condition, but they do not provide any cleaning supplies to assist with this. ||When we arrived, the cabin was well presented, with a modern but simple style. There are some things worth mentioning though: shower pressure in main bathroom was very low, showers were not that clean, hairs still in them from (I assume) previous occupants. Bed not made properly, also some hairs found in bed (on the whole it was clean, but a couple of dirty areas to note, considering it is expected for guests to leave the cabin clean on departure.) ||Something else that bugged me, was that the maintenance staff just turned up on our decking (to the back of cabin, to check the spa daily) with no curtesy knock beforehand, which felt a little invasive, although they were professional and didn't look into our cabin (however a knock would have still been appreciated.) ||The package we upgraded to also changed just before we arrived, and they took the sports channel off us, which was disappointing. ||I would not come back here, for the simple reason that I've been on better log cabin holidays which had the right amenities and luxuries provided, but if the price was cheaper, it would be more acceptable and worth coming back to. The location is beautiful, and despite my list of slight issues it was a nice holiday.
Absolutely amazing from start to finish. Perfect place to unwind and get back to nature. Had the pleasure of a visit from 2 owls in broad daylight amongst plentiful birds and other beautiful animals. The lodge was absolutely stunning with so much attention to detail and immaculately kept. Staff vey helpful and friendly and as for the road into the lodge yes many potholes but only to be expected as you are in a forest! Certainly not a problem for us. Looking forward to our next visit as this is the most beautiful place to unwind and relax.
I went with my sister, husband and 8 month old son. While the view and the walks are amazing, the cabin was less to be desired|Absolutely disgusting, my white socks were black after walking in side the cabin for couple of minutes (we took our shoes off at the door). You could see the dirt in the grooves of the leather sofa. The cups, pans and plates were filthy. Dust that was cakes on the shelves. |I understand that it's the woods and things get dirty but it was clear the cabin was not cleaned. |The hottub lid was open when we checked in. Causing the hottub water to become filthy and very cloudy. We did complain but they really didn't seem to care. Very expensive for such a dirty place. If you go, make sure you take your own kitchen roll, sponges and soap (as you get one sponge, a very small bottle of washing up liquid and no kitchen roll). They expect you to make sure the cabin is clean when you leave... shame they didn't do the same for us.
