Fort Burgoyne was built in the 1860s as one of the Palmerston forts in southeast England and guards the high ground northeast of the strategic port of Dover, just north of Dover Castle. The Land Trust acquired Fort Burgoyne in 2014 and since taking ownership of the site, the Trust has sought to halt declining condition of the main Fort structure while providing opportunities for public visits through regular events, education, volunteer days, and training activities. Together with open public access to recreation ground and grasslands surrounding the Fort, in 2023 a programme of restoration and access works in the West Wing of the Fort was completed enabling regular free public access to this space.
Took my daughter for a Easter hunt day there and if your interested in war history in Dover the buildings are in great condition and well designed not just square brick buildings all built in 1860 I was informed.
Enjoyed the open day and the tour (: worth doing if you like history
It's a very nice place to see how the history of England once was and see how somebody lived in a Fort. You have really interesting items like canons,... And you also have a beautiful view of the castle and the view on the city it's also a really good place for Kids to show them the history and learn to respect the world they're now in. I can't remember the price but I believe it was relatively OK for this, that you see. I would recommend it to everyone because it's interesting and there is so much to see.
We went to the Sunday funday at the Fort and had an amazing time. There was various activities for the kids to enjoy, from badge making to nature inspired games. We went on a animal quiz route where you had to find descriptions of different animals and work out which animal wasn't on the list, if you answered correctly then you got some sweets which the kids loved. The tour around the Fort was very interesting learning about the Fort itself and the wildlife surrounding it. The people where all lovely and if you had a question to ask there was someone who was happy to talk to you about it. Thank you for the event, we really enjoyed it.
A very interesting site, lots to learn about this Victorian fortress. It's currently only available to view on a guided tour by diamond weddings, bookable on FB. Comes with a nice meal, and good value. Good footwear needed and some quite steep inclines. Picture is of Dover Castle from the battlements of Fort Burgoyne.
Absolutely love this place especially when they have the tours on
