The Forth Bridge is a cantilevered bridge over the Firth of Forth in Scotland, connecting Edinburgh to Fife. Its distinctive red color and imposing structure make it an iconic landmark. The bridge is 2,529 meters long and 110 meters high, with two 521-meter-long cantilevers that are held together by a central pier. It was built in 1889-1890 and is considered a masterpiece of Victorian engineering, carrying the mainline railway traffic between Edinburgh and Aberdeen.
Well I've been over the bridges many times . And they are all magnificent structures. This is the first time I've seen them from on the water. What a superb sight and you can truly see the craftsmanship in both the design and the manual building of such a magnificent set of bridges. If your here looking at the bridges then is well worth taking a river trip to see all aspects of the monumental structures .
Always love a good stroll along here on a sunny day! Beautiful views, great wee ice cream parlours and plenty of options for a bite to eat or cheeky glass of wine. Parking can be difficult as with anywhere but would be extra careful as a lot of people were getting parking tickets, be that due to poor observation of bays and their markings or awareness and just chancing their luck in that the eagle eyed wardens couldn't possibly be out on a sunny Saturday!
I'm a few miles from the ferry .. my absolute favourite walk.. my dad always loved seeing tge cruse ships.. amazing place .. the restaurants are great and wee shop cafes are great .. x
Sailed here on Holland America Line Rotterdam. Enjoyed a very brief visit to Edinburgh before schedaddling to Linlithgow by rail for the day and seeing Mary Queen of Scots childhood home (castle ruins). Funny, reading a new book right now that mentions forth of the firth, so jumped into my pictures from last July 2024 and did this review.
Must visit, do not miss free spot in Edinburgh. 30 minutes drive and look for Forth Bridge viewpoint for some great pics. All 3 bridges from one spot and this doc itself has its history. Worth the visit and follow up by a drive through the bridges.
A fantastic day looking and learning how this massive structure was built and and the sacrifices these brave souls made. It doesn't look all that big from a distance untill you stand next to it. Awe inspiring. Well worth a visit.
