This canal centre is a popular tourist destination located in Newent, Gloucestershire, England. The centre features a stunning canal with 14 locks, which raise the canal by 81 feet over a distance of 1 mile. Visitors can watch canal boats navigate the locks, learn about the history of the canal at the on-site museum, and enjoy a stroll along the towpath. The centre also offers a café, picnic areas, and a gift shop.
This is one fabulous place you would never say it just by a busy motorway So peaceful and relaxing. The little cafe has some awesome cakes lovely with a nice brew watching the wildlife on the pond.
Really interesting spot to explore, lots of routes to try out too, there are busy roads surrounding some of the trail but when you find a quiet wooded area it's bliss.
A lovely walk alongside a dis-used canal on a smooth tarmac surface, you also have woodland walks which we did not go on. There's also a small cafe at the Visitor Centre where you can enjoy a refreshment.
It was raining at the time we visited but we'll get back again for sure. Beautiful place to visit and have a nice walk.
Lovely area to walk, dog friendly and great views down the valley. The locks are amazing feat of engineering from the 18th century !!! Some have been restored but of course money and volunteering has been in short supply last couple of years ! Great little cafe with lovely treats and good coffee, plus a little souvenir shop to help maintain the area. Well worth a visit.
The cafe has a fair selection of food and drinks reasonably priced and freshly made. Gift shop is nice with local products. Views are lovely. The only thing it needs, and I couldn't find, is a map of the walking trails so you have an idea of where you're heading. We ended up turning around and coming back on ourselves as we didn't know if the path we were on was a loop or not.
