A tranquil and picturesque lake surrounded by lush greenery, Frensham Great Pond is a serene oasis in the heart of Surrey, England. The pond's calm waters reflect the beauty of its surroundings, creating a sense of peacefulness and harmony with nature.
Very accessible pond, with lovely sand banks for a great family outing. Parked at the nearby Frensham little pond, and walked (with the family), on to this bigger pond....giving us more time to explore the surrounding heathland...which is equally beautiful.
Very nice place for an outdoor walk, especially around the Pond (lake). I particularly like the no go areas clearly marked NO DOGS ALLOWED. There is is small cafe which is handy, albeit a bit overpriced in my opinion. Just be aware that there is NO paddling or swimming due to algae in the water
In terms of convenience, it's great. It's clean. It's beautiful. However, it doesn't have an accessible route to the little beach, and pulling a wheelchair, with its occupant, and all your bags, and your 5 year old has turned into a feral cat.. it's tough terrain. As you would expect on a beach, but optimistically hoped one day, the gods took everyone's needs into consideration. The ducks were relentlessly trying to nab bits of your picnic, and as its nesting season, the poor ranger was up and down trying to get kids to stop chasing them and keeping lose dogs off the beach. No chairs for hire, so bring your own. Parking meter broken, but free for national trust. Had to fuss with the ringgo app with no phone signal.. anxiety trigger. Little cafe does a short range of refreshments and there is ample parking.. which I believe is utterly full come the summer.
Frensham Beach is a lovely place to swim in the spring and the winter before the algae arrives! Absolutely amazing place to swim in the evening and early morning when there's barely anybody around. We saw lots of wildlife from fish to birds. Great place for kids and grown ups alike and a just a lovely day out all round. There were plenty of spaces to park even on a busy day but did have to go slightly further away
If swimming is restricted, you should put legiable signs up at the entrace and in the parking area rather then a tiny single A4 printout so they can make up thier minds before paying for full day parking. And to the visitors, y'all are geniuses for getting scared of a little algae and created a fuss for us ignoring the algae in the water, please learn how human immune system works.
I had been hiking in the area 2 years ago and was looking forwards to coming to visit the pond. However, we were there 2 weeks ago, and the lake has signage saying that due to toxic algae, you cannot swim or get in the water. A few parents ignoring this, let their children in the water and none was there to check. There's sand to play as well, as if you were in the beach. But without being able to swim in the lake, there's no reason to go and spend the day there, as there's no other amenities, other than the cafe/food stall. But not so much to do. Hence my rating.
