At Frogmore Paper Mill we celebrate the huge contribution that paper has played in shaping the world in which we live today. Frogmore Paper Mill is operated by the Apsley Paper Trail, a charitable trust founded to conserve the unique industrial heritage of this site in Hemel Hempstead. Frogmore is still a working paper mill but, as operated by the charity, it is also a visitor, education and community use centre as well. The trust is entirely self-financing and, of course, is not-for-profit with all proceeds from its activities being re-invested in the repair, maintenance and development of the mill and its historic equipment. We're available for school visits, family visits, and first wedding anniversary visits! Come and visit us today!
I cannot wait for them to reopen! You can learn much about paper making, both with machine and by hand. The production manager was very friendly and generously allowed us to take bits of samples of the meadow paper. The education manger and collection officer were very kind in answering all our questions. Making paper with hand is an experience not to miss! If I have to give any suggestions: many exhibitor boards would benefit from a new design; at the moment they are rather wordy with terms not well-explained (especially for someone whose native language is not English).
Excellent! We visited Frogmore Paper Mill for the First Wedding Anniversary package and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The day began with the interesting and informative tour of the old mill, where it was great to see the current working mill in comparison to the older equipment. After the tour, we were invited for a glass of bubbly and a private tutored paper making class where we made our own cotton-based paper by hand. We embedded all sorts of materials into our paper which was then pressed, dried, printed and posted out to us. The whole experience was perfect from start to finish!
This is such a interesting place and the volunteers make it so good. We also had a ride on a small barge on the canal with a fish and chip lunch. 1st class day and well worth a visit.
Lovely space to put on a show. Saw Rent here last night, I've never experienced a show in this way but it was great. We followed the production around and it flowed very well. The cast were amazing and the staff were friendly.
What a fantastic hidden treasure. Had a wonderful guided tour, made some paper and had a boat trip a great day out.
Fantastic day I discovered so much about how such a simple thing as paper had a profound effect on social an economic development. Highly recommended for all children from 6 to 106!
Wheelchair-accessible entrance
Good for kids
