This reserve is a vast expanse of heather-covered moorland in the Lake District, featuring a stunning array of flora and fauna, including rare species such as the golden plover and curlew. The landscape is dotted with numerous ancient burial mounds, known as barrows, which date back to the Neolithic era. Visitors can explore the reserve's many trails, taking in the breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.
We stayed in a house at the nature reserve and it was a beautiful area. We saw lots of wildlife including deer and there are lovely walks to go on and explore.
Smashing reserve with a variety of habitats. Incredible limestone pavements which support lots of mosses and flora. Very local to Arnside & Silverdale and RSPB Leighton Moss Small but usually quiet parking area. Ring and Pay parking.
Great walk around the Tarn and to trowbarrow Quarry. Great footpaths not very well marked out in colour codes though. Lots of wildlife around the walks very quiet peaceful place.
We enjoyed going around the limestone path, it is well marked to show the way. The limestone pavement is mostly visible in the first part of the walk.
Lovely place to visit. 3 different walks. Each walk is signed to show you the route. Car only holds approx 7 cars. No areas for a picnic We walked the white track, but going to walk round lake next, which I think is the yellow track
A very peaceful spot off the beaten track. Footpaths are well maintained and mostly hard-standing . If you want to complete a circular walk around Hawes Water you will need to head towards Red Bridge. It's an easy walk but best done with a map. The main path does not go all the way round.
