Founded in 1987, Gatwick Aviation Museum is a Charity that funds and supports the education of British aviation, engineering and English Heritage. The Museum acts as a valuable educational resource, that provides vital support to a number of schools, youth associations, families, children and young people within our community. It is our aim to ignite and inspire passion, learning, development and enjoyment. We provide crucial skills, experience and relevant information, through our collections, engineering projects, fundraising initiatives and educational events and workshops, in order to provide more opportunities that will support those who aspire to join the industry that exists today.
Great little museum to see a bit of the history of aviation. Good for adults and children to explore and see the planes and helicopter. My toddler enjoyed flying the helicopter and aeroplane cockpit with all its buttons and dials. They is a nice cafe and lots of friendly helpful staff as well as little shop to buy bits for the kids and big kids too. Parking was good location can be tricky to find but there are signs. Not too pricey and perfect for a few hours of entertainment for kids during the holidays.
Great little hidden museum that gives an idea of how Gatwick has gown and developed over the years but also a great selection of military air craft you can get up close with and walk through some of them.
Excellent place to visit. Lots of history and a good selection of aircraft to view. If it's a nice day, there are picnic benches you can sit on and watch the planes taking off at London Gatwick nearby. Some gifts to buy too as souvenirs and a small on-site cafe. We loved our visit here, even though it was cold and wet.
Perfectly pleasant experience! Volunteers are available to guide you thru the museum. Tickets reasonable(about $10 US dollars) . The guides were volunteers who demonstrated their passion for aviation. Awesome vintage aircraft. So glad we traveled across the pond to see such wonders. High five to the fella who graciously gave us a ride back to Horley, as we typically hike EVERYWHERE.
Fabulous museum detailing the history of Gatwick Airport and the planes that were operational during the end of WW2 and the Cold War. We had the chance to meet and hear the stories of aircrews who participated in the nuclear testing at Christmas Island The volunteers who provide the talks are superb and provide first hand accounts of life in these amazing aircraft. If you have the slightest interest in this amazing part of aviation history then do not wait too long and your support will help them to restore further exhibits for future generations.
We visited om Friday the 8th March, a little uncertain if our just 3 year old was going to make of it all but we had a blast!! It was quiet being a working/school day so we were able to chat to the staff and get some real indepth info regarding the planes, history, engineering etc behind it all. We feel even if it was busier, the staff would still be great though! It was a great few hours for our little man who loved exploring the planes and being able to sit some, including a helicopter. We look forward to returning with our other children, family and friends! Hats off, once again, to all the staff who made our day fantastic.
