Geevor Tin Mine was a working mine up until 1990 and is now an award winning museum and heritage site. Open all year round, find us on and under the rugged cliffs of the Tin Coast in West Cornwall. Visit and discover what life was like for those who worked here. Dog Friendly. Free Parking
A complete tin mine pretty much the way it was the day it closed down as a working mine. All the equipment, some pieces in better shape than others, used in every part of the mining processes is presented in a genuine context. A great day out for the kids and most of it covered if the weather is not so good.
Good place for a day trip. Lots to see. You can feel the history of the mines. Exhibits are educational and thought provoking. Staff are all very friendly and knowledgeable.
Fantastic morning spent at Geevor, there's so much to see and do for all the family, as a family of 4 having lots to do is always a must. For the kids there was gold panning plus a quiz where they had to find different components and where they were mined. For the whole family there's was the entire sight. I didn't get to see the hard rock museum but my eldest son and husband did and found it fascinating. The mine was so interesting to go around and being pregnant being able to duck out half way through was a massive help. I can't recommend it more than I have. The cafe is also a must visit, we visited for breakfast and it was possibly the best breakfast we've ever had.
When searching for experiences in Cornwall, Geevor Tin Mine Museum was one that people recommended. We had such an amazing time and would go back again. It's a great place to visit if you want to learn about the working history of Cornwall and immerse yourself in an amazing world of miners. It's great for both adults and children. You get guided through parts of the mine, and every step of the way is explained to you by your very knowledgeable guide. Our guide Matt was amazing and so enthusiastic. He brought so much energy to the tour. We really enjoyed walking through the old section of the mine. It can be quite narrow in sections, and even though I do not like tight spaces, I took it slowly and am so glad I did it. It's definitely an experience I will remember. We also walked around after the guided tour on our own and liked that option as well. We then went to the cafe for some lunch, which was delicious, and it had spectacular views over the ocean.
Great family day out - and there is enough there for a full day, too. Lots of interesting things to see and read about. Knowledgeable and friendly staff, some of whom actually worked there when it was an operational mine. Interactive stuff for kids suitable for age 3-4 upwards, but you could take younger children too without an issue.
Wonderful tour and great value. We learned about all aspects of tin mining and why it was important in cornwall. It is well preserved because it was still working in the 80s then suddenly closed down so workers left a lot of their belongings behind. Slightly disappointed that the only mine we were allowed to enter was a small shallow mine instead of going to actual deep mines.
