A 90-foot-tall red brick obelisk erected in 1879 to commemorate the life and works of renowned English novelist George Eliot, featuring a square base, tapering sides, and a pyramidal top, surrounded by a small garden and offering panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.
Originally the obelisk was located within the grounds of Arbury Hall and wreaths were first laid on 22nd November 1934. The obelisk was moved to its present location prior to the George Eliot Memorial Gardens being officially opened on 1st May 1952
