This 18th-century mill, now a museum, showcases the history of papermaking and the industrial heritage of the region. The mill's original machinery is still intact, and visitors can see demonstrations of traditional papermaking techniques. The museum also features exhibits on the history of the mill, the lives of its workers, and the impact of the industry on the local community.
Beautiful big old abandoned mill echoing the industrial grandiose of yesteryear. Unfortunately it is no longer accessible or safe by the dilapidated looks of it but it is mightily impressive to behold. Big and brown brick bold ,it exudes memories of our hard working and exploited forebears ,toiling away producing linen and the owner very wealthy. It sits atop the town of Gilford ,right next to the river Bann like an unloved tomb, an industrial relic or a forsaken church. A sign proclaiming private suggests it has been bought for redevelopment, perhaps even salvage with all those historical bricks. Who knows but in it's hey day it must have been some sight to behold and employed most of the local residents.
Shot a music video here for local band Machina Kore' single - Making A Monster (I am the guitarist). Such a fantastic location in multiple areas. The location was the astetic show piece. Fantastic and full of character. Search it out on Youtube
It's a really good, really good deals you should come here by your groceries Yeah it's really cheap.
Lovely walk along the Riverside and the grounds of the mill. No tickets required as the walk is free to all. Mill itself is closed down and therefore not open to the public.
Inaccessible, in a dangerous state as a part started renovation.
Nice wee walk away to the mill but very slippy in frostie conditions. It would be nice to see the horses with some shelter.
