This reserve is a remnant of the ancient woodland that once covered the countryside, with many of its trees dating back to the 17th century. The woodland floor is carpeted with bluebells, wild garlic, and other wildflowers in the spring, while the canopy above is home to a variety of bird species, including the lesser spotted woodpecker and the tawny owl. The reserve's many streams and waterfalls add to its natural beauty, creating a tranquil atmosphere that is perfect for walking and relaxation.
Great walk, several options. Some scrambling on some of the paths, great views. Limited free parking.
An absolutely stunning woodland on Scotland's west coast. The loop around the wood itself is fairly short but the landscape is so dense with wildlife and flora that you can easily spend an entire day here. Bring a camera and a notebook, there are lots of things to see here that you won't find so easily elsewhere out of the local area. A truly special spot.
Nice walk with chance to see some nice birds and rarer butterflies. Also good for variety of lichen.
Ok if you want a short walk around a forest but wasn't overly exciting to be honest. Some nice cascades and mushrooms but a very short walk. About 1.3km in total nice views non the less
A lovely quiet 1km circular walk in this ancient woodland, with many species of flora and fauna to enjoy. The path was quite easy to follow, though there were offshoots here and there that I suspect may have been animal tracks. The little laminated maps available to borrow from the car park were particularly useful to help guide you through the wood. The information boards seem to be in the process of being updated; some were new, others missing. It was steep, rocky, and slippery underfoot and quite overgrown, so I was glad of my wellies in the long damp grass. Small free car park, suitable for cars and campervans. Numerous benches along the path to sit and take a breath and enjoy your surroundings.
