This open-air museum showcases rural Scottish life from the 18th to 20th centuries, featuring a collection of historic buildings, including a 18th-century farmhouse, a 19th-century village school, and a 20th-century sawmill. The museum also includes a working farm with livestock, a recreated 1950s village street, and a range of exhibits showcasing traditional crafts and skills, such as blacksmithing, woodworking, and weaving.
Lovely museum! Very educational and very welcoming and kind staff. Me and my partner will certainly be back! The soup and Victoria sponge cake was so tasty
traveled from Newcastle to this beautiful heritage site and landmark, very dog friendly museum and welcome insided, the staff are very friendly, please ask david for his tour! the food and hot drinks were lovley 10/10
What a wonderful place. The museum is well laid out and very interesting. We were very lucky to meet the photographer who was the artist in residence. He spent a lot of time with us talking about his photos on display and describing what they were and where he had taken them. The staff in the cafe were very welcoming and gave us great service. This included serving us takeaway soup after the cafe had closed. I will be back next year on my annual visit to Scotland from London.
Absolutely amazing Museum, nice people ,very good Coffee and so many beautiful things to discover. I had a perfect morning there with lots of interesting informations. Thank you so much!
This is really interesting if you like local history. There were things that we recognised from our grandparents homes in the 1960s. The staff were extremely knowledgeable and nothing was too much trouble. We changed some of our plans based on their recommendations. Also their tea and cake was extremely nice. An unexpected gem, not a full day out but a few hours well spent.
Glen Esk Folk Museum now open again after some time closed to the public. The Museum is stocked full of historical agricultural artefacts and items of great interest about the local area and it's past. You could easily spend an hour just looking through the displays. There is a donation wireless device on entry and to assist keeping this resource open its well worth a tap to donate. There is also a linked cafe service basic soup and sandwich type food and of course scones and cakes. Service on cafe is good and very friendly.
