We were a group of about 40 folks and booked the place for the whole weekend. Had a fantastic time and really appreciated the tour and explanations of all the buildings. Arranged our own disco and band and bought our own drinks. A burger van kept us fed with great food all weekend too. Highly recommended.
Clive was a brilliant, engaging tour guide, an encyclopedia of knowledge about the building itself, prison life, the history and so much more. Fascinating stuff. Tickets very reasonably priced for the amount you learn and get to see. We will be back soon for the candlelight night tour. Highly recommend!
Absolutely brilliant visit today. Gov Steve was on great form, mixing history, personal knowledge and humour to engage, inform and entertain the audience. Please support this place, it is under threat of redevelopment and the owner is ploughing money back in to try to keep it running. A great visit, highly recommended.
Great night hosted by Most Haunted Team. Lots of activity seen and opportunity to do your own hunt with equipment after 1am when you have free run of the prison. Make sure you bring a blow up bed and have dinner beforehand as only snacks and soft drinks provided. Very experienced team to lead the group hunt. I highly recommend this experience.
Wow what a place. The tour was run by the former warden and his daughter. Over 2 and a bit hours he showed us around the prison, providing not just information of how it was run but also stories of what he saw. There is a huge amount history here - all brought to life by the former Warden. My 10 and 7 year old were as fascinated as we were! In my mind this is a totally unique time to see it. Plans are underway to build flats on the site and the tour guide and business partners are doing everything possible to keep some of it going and convert into a museum. I recently went around the Oxford prison which was incredibly commercial and boring in comparison to this! I can't recommend this enough! What an experience
A really worthwhile visit. A thoroughly enjoyable tour of the prison exactly as it was when it closed in 2013. The guide is an ex prison governor with a career in the Service, having also been governor at Gloucester. Lots of great historical facts as well as really interesting anecdotes. Great humour and the prison itself looks like something out of a film inside. Brilliant. The tour was c.2.5 hours and it flew by. Worth beyond the ticket. Keeping this place alive for generations to enjoy and experience. Highly recommend.
