Historic steam railway offering scenic 28-mile round-trip rides through the Cotswolds.
Visited on D-Day and it was really amazing. The volunteers were so helpful and engaging dressed in traditional clothes to echo a period in time. The journey was so relaxing and was able to get off the train and explore the surroundings. Definitely worth a visit.
A wonderful day, parking near the station all day a fiver, not bad. Food on the train from buffet car superb or in any one of the tea rooms at the stations, yes we tried a couple of them!. Bacon baps especially good. Exhibitions at the various stations worth looking at. All in all a great day out, and then a short walk into Broadway for dinner
Great day with such friendly enthusiastic volunteers. Went on different trains all were fab and stopped off at winchcombe toddington and Broadway stations each one like stepping back in time. Some great exhibitions to see and lovely tea rooms. Would highly recommend for a lovely day out
What an amazing experience. We had a lot of fun travelling on the steam train. We bought 'rover' tickets, which can be used all day, and visited every station, from Cheltenham Racecourse to Broadway. There is a buffet on board and cafes at some of the stations. It's a great experience, even on a rainy day.
A heritage train experience that takes you through scenic routes and tunnels that makes the journey enjoyable. Plus you can get down at stations in between and roam around. Great way to explore some of the Cotswold main spots. Very fun and classy experience. The Cheltenham racecourse station has free parking for the GWR railway and is accessible within the racecourse itself. You need to inform the security that you are visiting the railway station and they allow you. It is advisable to buy tickets online for convenience.
Heritage railway in the heart of the countryside, using both vintage steam and diesel traction and BR MK1 coaching stock. All the stations were immaculate and looked after but the jewel must be the (fairly) new Broadway station that I had not visited previously. The work that has gone into recreating was very evident and you would not believe that it had been demolished by BR decades ago and rebuilt! All the staff were happy and genuinely seemed to be enjoying themselves. The bacon and sausage roll at the cafe at Toddington was insanely tasty. Bacon rashers as thick as a gammon steak and what I presume was a locally sourced Cumberland curl sausage. I visited this spot before the return of the railway to the racecourse in the 1990s, and again more recently when the racecourse was in use but Broadway was just a dream. The quality and passion for returning this line to life had not diminished. I should also add that the entire route has wonderful scenery for the majority of it's route, so worth looking out of the window for!
