Godinton is a remarkable country house, nestled in the heart of Kent close to the picturesque village of Great Chart. Dating back to the 14th century, the house today reflects the tastes of the last owner, Alan Wyndham Green. It is designed to feel comfortable and more informal than other properties - a house, rather than a museum so that visitors can imagine what life might have been like here. The famous yew hedge surrounds the twelve acres of tranquil gardens, with the rose, wild, Italian and walled gardens beyond, full of colour and interest through the seasons, maintained close to Reginald Blomfield's original 1898 designs.
Absolutely wonderful! The gardens are beautiful and varied, plenty to discover and lots of wildlife to spot while walking. Beautiful surrounding countryside too. The main attraction though is the incredibly well preserved and presented house! A truly fascinating guided tour through its rich history runs at regular intervals and is thoroughly unmissable.
A hidden gem. Godinton Gardens are stunning and well-maintained. Surprisingly, there were very few other people wandering the gardens, so quite peaceful too (apart from the sheep in the adjacent field). I got tickets on arrival (good value) and no waiting time.
Visited for the first time and had a wonderful afternoon exploring the gardens. Tea rooms serve a selection of treats and drinks, very friendly service. Would definitely recommend for a visit. I didn't take the house tour, so will book that on my next visit.
These gardens are amongst the best and most speculative we have visited. Even though the weather was changeable the gardens did not fail to supprise and deliver. The staff in the house and shop were really welcoming and extremely knowledgable. Would recommend the cream tea, 2 lovely freshly baked scones with plenty of jam, cream and 3 cups of tea. Well worth it, overlay a 5 * afternoon.
Even on a dreary afternoon in May this is a beautiful garden to visit. It's a mix of formal rooms and informal wilderness all wrapped in a stunning yew hedge. There are bucolic vistas and immaculate topiary with carefully curated boarders.
Visited yesterday for the second time. Beautiful house and gardens and wonderful Staff. We enjoyed the visit very much. I am not a lover of tour guided visits but the guides on this occasion were very interesting and enjoyable. There were tons I wanted to ask. A slight tip - never mention you have been before though, you'll be tested on it! But otherwise a lovely day !
