Goleudy Twr Mawr is a 13th-century fortified tower house located in the hamlet of Goleudy Twr Mawr, near the town of Llandeilo, in Carmarthenshire, Wales, UK. The tower stands at approximately 50 feet tall and features a rectangular shape with a narrow, tapered design, characteristic of medieval fortified towers. Its stone walls are up to 6 feet thick, with narrow windows and a single entrance on the ground floor. The tower's architecture suggests it was built for defense purposes, likely as a stronghold for a local noble family. Today, Goleudy Twr Mawr remains a significant historical landmark, offering insight into medieval Welsh history and architecture.
This place is an incredible spot to visit! The lighthouse offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding coastline and sea. The walk up to the lighthouse takes time, and once there, the serene atmosphere and breathtaking scenery make it well worth the effort. The beach here is truly one of the best I've been to in the UK--it's wonderfully sandy and perfect for a relaxing day by the sea. There is a car park available, and it's about a 45-minute walk to the lighthouse, whether you choose to go through the beach or through the woods. Both routes offer their own unique charm and scenic beauty. It's a perfect place for photography, a peaceful walk, or just to sit and take in the beauty of nature. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the area!
Newborough Forest and beach are absolutely stunning. A MUST day out when visiting Anglesey. Take a 1-2 hr (there and back) walk out to the lighthouse from the main car park and experience some stunning scenery along the way as well as some wild horses.
It's a long walk from the car park of about 45 minutes but it's a stunning beach walk and when you reach the lighthouse you'll find another one along with a row of old cottages and other structures well worth it
Beautiful place to walk and paddle board. We park at NewBorough Beach then walk along the beach . The view is beautiful
A nice side trip off the coast path. Historically significant with the ruins of Saint Dwynwen church. Recently used as a filming location for House of the Dragon as stand-in for the coast of Dragonstone.
