Gower became the first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in the UK - way back in 1956. Gower's scenery ranges from fragile dune and salt marsh in the north to the dramatic limestone cliffs along the south coast, intercut by sandy beaches. Inland, the hills of Cefn Bryn and Rhossili Down dominate the landscape of traditional small fields, wooded valleys and open commons. Award-winning beaches, dramatic coast, rolling downs, and traditional villages linked by small lanes make Gower a place to unwind and recharge your batteries.
We walked her from the nearby Heritage centre. It was a fairly easy walk up the hill, even for an old geezer. There are still sufficient ruins of the castle remaining to envisage it's original size, and the views out over the bay were stunning.
Outstanding natural beauty, with many hiking routes, stunning beaches and lots of beautiful views for photography
Large expanse of sandy beach known as Rhosili beach. Similar beach around the northern headland known as Broughton beach. Headland includes the blue pool. Lots of surfers, paddle boarders and kayakers around. Beaches allow dogs all year and are shallow sloping, ideal for children. Not known if there is a lifeguard patrol. Other sports to partake in are hang gliding, walking and running.
Outstanding beauty, lovely beach, cliffs.Extradordinary time spent with family.
Beautiful place with breathtaking views. There is plenty of space to walk and explore. Some areas might be a challenge and would recommend wearing good shoes as the sand makes the paths slippery. You can walk to see the Pennard Castle ruins. There are plenty of benches to rest and have a picnic/snack.
This is A great area to visit. I particularly enjoyed the dramatic beaches with golden sands, craggy rock cliffs and crashing waves. The village at Horton is very pretty and the beach wild and wonderful as is Mumbles, the views from bracelet bay are spectacular.
