The Great Wall of Deerness is a 1.5-mile-long (2.4 km) dry stone wall built in the 18th century to enclose a deer park on the grounds of Deer Park Hall, a country house in Lincolnshire, England. The wall is constructed from local limestone and features a distinctive curved design, with a series of bastion-like projections at regular intervals. It is considered one of the most impressive and well-preserved examples of a deer wall in the UK, and is a Grade II listed structure.
What an amazing wall! So perfectly formed, it's hard to believe that it's so old. I have heard that Orkney council are considering an extension to the deerness visitors centre so that they can fit in a section of this unbelievable wall. My girlfriend loved it and in hindsight this would have been the perfect place to propose instead of the Ola back bar. Well worth a visit.
We came to this wall without any expectations. Thats why we where even more suprised by this wall's excellence! As we came closer to the wall we could really feel the magic, power and special aura, the wall was sending. For us, definetly a highlite on the ornkey island. You should not miss it! Make sure to book tickets in advance to avoid long waiting ques!
Huge big up to this marvelous wall! This wall redefines the art of construction. I walked on it, felt it, fell, got back on it, the wall just accepted me. It was truly an incredible experience... it doesn't seem like much but you have to live it to understand. A must see on the Island.
This great wall is a wall in another magical world full of fairies. They are just wearing spider and pill bug costumes. Magical!!! One of the new world wonders in my eyes. 10/5 stars at least.
This Was Hands down the Highlight of our Trip to Orkney. The wall is quiet sturdy and the view is very nice. I wish we had more awesome sights like this on our vacation. 6/5 Stars!
amazing, spectacular, beautiful the only words that I can think of to describe this magnificent wall. Visiting the wall was a once in a life time experience and hands down the best day of my life. As I walked over it I felt all my troubles float away into picturesque landscape and it made me feel like all my dreams were possible. Not visiting this on your trip to Orkney is an actual crime.
