A vast area of ancient woodland, Great Wood is a haven for nature lovers and walkers. The wood is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, including many species of trees, plants, and animals. Visitors can explore the wood's many trails, including the 2-mile Great Wood Trail, which takes walkers on a scenic journey through the heart of the wood. The wood is also dotted with scenic clearings, streams, and ponds, making it a perfect spot for picnics and relaxation.
Magnificent vast woodlands. There is a round route you can take alongside countless tracks to explore. Magical
On arrival, we found 3 carparks at different levels. The middle carpark has a designated picnic area with seats and tables together with a public toilet block. We started at the lower carpark to do the 2.4 mile round trip walk. The first mile was a stady uphill walk. This could be difficult for some people. The walk was enjoyable with a very intense forest, ferns, and stream. Most enjoyable with very few other people.
So beautiful wonderful for dog walking although best to keep them on long lead as many dogs and ticks. Has great picknic area with wonderful steams for children to play and concentrate tables for BBQs please take your rubbish away with you as many deer that rubbish can harm
Lovely forest, we enjoyed our walk. Perfect even for small children; my 4 year old loved it. Good parking areas; there are 3 different parking spaces, picnic area and beaches along the trails. There are signs for pay and display but no machines where to pay
I recently visited the Great Wood in the Quantock Hills and was blown away by its natural beauty. The ancient woodland is a haven for walkers, dog owners, and nature enthusiasts alike. The trails are well-maintained and offer a variety of routes to suit all abilities. I particularly enjoyed the walk to the top of the hill, which offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside. The Great Wood is also a great place for a picnic. There are plenty of secluded spots to spread out a blanket and enjoy a leisurely lunch. If you're looking for a day out in nature, I highly recommend a visit to the Great Wood. It's a truly special place that I'm sure you'll love.
Good place for access to the quantock hills for dog walks or mountain biking, large picnic area in ranscombe and toilet facilities. 4 stars as it looks like you will need to pay to park soon. Machines out of action when I went.
