Took advantage of the glorious October weather to go for a 57 minute walk each way round the former US base. The cafe at the former Control Tower comes as a welcome break. A gem in our locality.
Great place to take dogs. There is a lovely dog pond, our two dogs love the pond, even if the cows are around the pond. The cows are used to people and dogs.
Good place to walk or to walk the dog. Beware of cattle which roam freely however the space is massive so you're unlikely to come into contact with them. Lots of puddles and lakes around. A visit to the volunteer run cafe in the control tower is a must. Three car parks - both ends of the old runway and by the control tower
I do like this place for something different while out for a bike ride , I often pop in to ride around it on my way home and call in to the cafe for a drink. It's also easy to part a car in one of the car parks (free) and have a walk but worth having a look on the internet about the history first. It's flat and the paths are gravel a very safe place for a family walk , I think it's about 4 miles around it with paths cutting across and cows roaming freely but they don't bother you. I will say again, if you never been look on the internet about the history first.
Lovely for a walk with the family or your pets. It does lack facilities at all bar the main car park and could do with more information at the history of the site scattered throughout the routes
A great to visit, many routes to take on gravelled track. Walk the dogs and kids. So many hidden areas in the woods. I've been visiting for over 10yrs and only 1 year ago I discovered a pond area. Great for picnics in the grass. Car parks across different areas of the common. (Not pay and display but ask for a contribution at the middle one by the large roundabout) cattle are friendly and don't bother people.
