A self-guided trail featuring 12 stations, each showcasing a character from the beloved children's book, with life-size sculptures and interactive elements, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the Gruffalo's forest world.
Wonderful country park! Decent sized pay & display car park. The forest is absolutely beautiful with dedicated enclosed picnic areas with picnic benches. This place is perfect for dogs to run free, a nice stroll, family day out. We came here for the Gruffalo Trail. The main characters are dotted around the forest. You can buy a trail map for 70p at the gift shop. It has all the characters on it so is quite a cute souvenir too. Will definitely come here again!
Came here over Easter holiday, and it was busy but there were still plenty of parking spots. The parking lot toll isn't the best. I don't think it worked when we were there. The drive from east London was pretty pleasant and easy. The field is safe for kids to run around. There is a sensory area for kids to smell and touch the plants. Unfortunately there is no slides and other playground facilities. My yoyo pushchair was good enough here. There are enough picnic benches around here. Fee free to bring your own food.
As a family, we like coming here, we enjoy the Gruffalo trail, and enjoying the Woodlands, often spending a few hours just walking around, finding squirrels and enjoying the sensory garden. Car park is typical overpriced charges. I dont like to be tied down to 1 hour or 2, so then the next option is 4 hours which is over PS5. I feel 2 hours in the woods I will be clock watching, so need to pay over PS5. Try to avoid the ice cream van, my 2 chose an ice cream, PS4.50 each. So before even leaving the car park I had spent over PS15! Silly me! But its half term, so children won today.
Gruffalo wooden carvings have all been touched up since our last visit which was great as the kids all hug all the paint off and probably wear down with rainfall etc. So it's nice to see they put effort into reviving the carvings every so often. Our 3 year old loves it and whenever we go round kids of all ages have been seen to show the same excitement regardless of how many times you go visit! Cafe is good for ice cream, during busy periods they do tend to run out of food so we go prepared with our own now to enjoy a picnic before our walks. Lovely sensory garden not far from the entrance which is a bonus at this country park. There is an independent cycle hire place onsite for those not wanting to take bikes in their cars, like us so we hire a small balance bike for PS7 for 2 hrs which comes in handy to tire out our little one. All in all, always a wonderful day out regardless of the weather/season! Highly recommend a visit. Parking fees apply and toilets on site. Ice cream vans been there everytime we have been onsite!
Was a lovely walk, great thing to do on a day in the holidays. Accessible for the pram and a lovely cafe at the end with a very well stocked shop for gifts and souvenirs.
