The Gwili Railway is a heritage railway situated in Southwest Wales. Operating a preserved standard gauge railway from the site of Abergwili Junction, near Carmarthen, along 4 1/2 miles of the former Carmarthen to Aberystwyth line. The original railway closed in 1965, and since 1975 has been slowly extending with a long term ambition to run services along the full 8 1/2 miles of owned trackbed through the Gwili Valley North to Llanpumsaint.
What a lovely experience. We arrived this morning after our two hour drive from Monmouth, arriving in time to see our train and members of the railway staff waiting for today's passengers. Very well greeted and invited should we wish, to grab a take away coffee for the ride but having booked a Welsh tea as part of our experience. Clearly there is work going on to recreate a time gone bye suitable for this train experience but the wonderful and enthusiastic volunteers are working hard to complete what seems a massive task. Do come and visit, it's well worth the trip and what I believe to be very good value. Its only going to get better over the years to come .
Amazing!! What a great time we had. All the volunteers that make this happen are so friendly and helpful. The cafe sells teas, coffee & cakes and the price is very good. Well worth booking. Well done ladies and gentlemen.
Amazing! Scenic line and very friendly volunteers. We booked the cream tea train and it was lovely. All the volunteers are happy to answer any questions, especially Jeremy is very friendly and in for a chat. Definitely worth while visiting this steam railway.
Such a wonderful day out today at Gwili steam Railway. We booked for the cream tea. It was absolutely wonderful from start to finish. You get 2 scones each with best butter, fresh clotted cream and a pot of strawberry jam. You're offered tea or fresh brewed coffee. We had tea with ours. The volunteers really look after you and keep offering you more tea or coffee throughout your journey. We had such a lovely time. When the steam train stops, you can go exploring all the old carriages and there's even a post office carriage exactly like the one that was robbed in the famous great train robbery. Be sure to read the post cards, this was my favourite part of the post office. The volunteers are extremely knowledgeable and are so happy and helpful. I highly recommend this as a wonderful day out.
Great little train ride we booked 1st class cabin which had a lot of room for up to 6 people. Can take the baby strollers onto the train but unless they are put down and carried on you will struggle to get round the train. Not much to look at on the journey though but the stop was nice looking at the old trains no longer in use and the miniature train you can ride on
What a fabulous day out with my wife, nephew and I. A special mention to the staff and their friendliness and enthusiasm for the railway. The line has been extended further to Abergwili a little while back, adding further to the steam train experience, which we felt was great value for money at only PS17 each for adults for a return journey lasting just over 1.1/2 hours. There were snacks and drinks available on the journey, coffee was only PS2 per cup. Gwili Railway, thank you for a great day out.
