Hamperley Hideaways offers wilderness stays in our unique, custom built cabins and private wild camping spaces. Escape to nature and enjoy a 'digital detox' in our electricity-free, totally wild accommodation. Each of our glamping and camping spaces are completely private, not another person to be seen! You will have an entire field (or woodland) to yourself and each site comes with it's own composting toilet. Enjoy your time together in seclusion and privacy. We can provide wild glamping, wild camping and off-grid caravan/campervan stays in Shropshire. Nestled behind the Shropshire Hills, we are ideally located for exploring the surrounding countryside, with Church Stretton and The Longmynd located only 4 miles from our site.
Hamperley Hideaways will always be a special place for us - we first visited as a couple in early 2021 and we've been back each year since. Most recently as a growing family! The pitch locations are all stunning, with views of the Shropshire hills and rolling countryside. Unlike most campsites, the next pitch is far enough away to be out of ear and eye shot, so we always feel a great sense of peace as soon as we set up camp. Ryan - the chap running the place - and his father have always been helpful if we need it. And the one time we had a (completely unconnected to Hamperley!) emergency with our newborn, they really couldn't do enough to help us out. I couldn't recommend this place more, and can't wait for our next stay. Just take a look at the pics!
Absolutely lovely (and we have only been here a few hours!). Ryan allowed us to park up in our van off season, his dad was about and showed us around. Beautiful location, stunning scenery and some great looking walks. I would rather not review as I want to come back in summer and for it to still be a secret!
Not as seamless as hoped. Booked a private pitch in February only to have another family use it. Organiser was not on site to help or remedy anything, just left his parents to direct us to another field without a toilet or to use the forest pitch the other family had booked. I expect that the forest pitch was not big enough for the size tent they had. We used the field as there wasn't enough space for two tents and we didn't want tree sap on them. But we checked out the forest pitch as it was the only toilet we had to safely use. It was a good, flat enough field with a fire pit and bench nearby. The forest pitch is very pretty and sheltered from the wind, with fairy lights up at night, a good fire pit and bench set up. There didn't seem to be enough flat, dry space for anything larger than a 2-man tent though. The downside is that access is very steep to that pitch. Instead of the private, close toilet we had ordered and paid for, we had to walk down then up a steep hill to the forest pitch. Not ideal at 4am. In addition, the toilets had massive windows in the door to there was no privacy at all, particularly when it's at seat height. It was difficult to get on and off the toilet without flashing out of the window. Not entirely the experience we had booked.
Arriving at Hamperley Hideaways we knew we'd found something special. Ryan on the phone was so great helping us find our pitch and when we walked out we couldn't believe it. The explorers pitch is a few minutes walk from anyone else, at the end of two beautiful fields. In June they were filled with buttercups and red clover, butterflies and bees. We had a picnic bench, a small wooden stand (great for washing dishes and cooking), and a firepit with logs to sit on. We had our own compost loo which was clean and no smell (some campervan users were sharing it with us. I didn't mind but did think we got our private one so if this is important to you!). We pitched up in the shade of massive oak trees and settled into bliss. There are great walks within easy reach (there was even a gate at the bottom of our field onto a tiny country road, with a walking path a few minutes walk away) and the Green Dragon pub (8 minutes drive) is heaven. But really? We just sat and enjoyed the perfect location in blissful solitude. We saw almost nobody else and lazed in the stunning view. We saw owls, rabbits, red kites, and lots of other wildlife. Bring binoculars! The main thing would be more signage. We had to call to find our pitch and honestly Im not sure if we were using the right water as there were no signs at all. Also the water we found was by the parking and good walk away so bring what you can. You can borrow a wheelbarrow but he let us drive to our pitch which I appreciated. Either pack light or ask about driving as it's quite a trek! Overall, go go go! A holiday for peace and quiet, low impact living, and beautiful nature.
Wow! An amazing quiet place away from the bustle of life! Loads of space and the views are just awesome. We watched the sunset with a cold beer. Ryan was an excellent host and got back to me when I had a query. Definitely recommended. We'll be returning soon!
From start to finish, the stay at Hamperley Hideaways was an absolute pleasure. The pitches, completely separated from each other (each equipped with table and fire pit which is fab) will allow you to have a one off experience. Spectacular views, super friendly host, fantastic facilities which also include compost toilets nearby make it a worthwhile place to visit and revisit! Most definitely recommended!
