Sweeping valley views are offered from these remains of a Roman fort built in the 2nd century.
Great free-roaming Roman fort, in a picturesque location. The hardknott pass road leading to the fort is a tricky drive and not for the feint hearted, mostly a narrow single lane path up to the fort with some challenging bends. Parking is very limited there's a small parking bay for 3ish cars on the main walk up to the fort, with another smaller bay located about 300m to the north. The walk up to the fort is quite boggy so good footwear is essential.
Nice place to fly the drone! Magical and nice. Short walk from the car park. Drive is fun as well, narrow roads, and very hilly
Absolutely loved this place. Was so mysterious and beautiful and you can see why the Romans built a fort at the top of the hill. Surrounding views are magnificent! The walk up is incredibly hard but well worth the views.
Incredible history preserved and respected well. Views all around are stunning. Two car parking spots, you can't see the other one from first one you come to but there is two sections you can park at.
What a fantastic thing to go visit, if you're interested in history and learning new things this is definitely a must, we only stopped to have a walk nearby and to come across this was fantastic ended up staying for a good half an hour and could have easily stayed long if the weather was better. It's well worth a visit if you haven't already, just remember to get to it you have to ascend a portion of one of the hardest roads in England so make sure your car is up to it.
Roman Fort Ruins. The hardknott pass leading to the location is at times a hard drive. Not to be taken lightly... Especially if the weather is icy or even heavy rain , the roads are difficult enough. The Fort however is good. It was very boggy on the day and windy. Its an exposed location so dress accordingly to the weather conditions. Keep you're dogs on the lead at all times. There's usually sheep roaming around. We saw a dog chasing the sheep. Not good ! Enjoy the Fort
