Home to the Bishops of Worcester from 850 - 2007, discover the lives of those who lived and worked at Hartlebury Castle in the Bishop's Palace, explore the fascinating history of the county in Worcestershire County Museum, and relax with a peaceful stroll around grounds taking in the wildlife and views across the moat. With hands-on displays and enthralling themes, Hartlebury Castle is a great day out for all the family.
Very nice place to visit. Enjoyable experience for the weekend. The house itself is nice and the grounds allow for a good walk. The bundled museum experience was really fun and made the whole trip a lot more entertaining. Parking was easy and the location accessible.
I've never been to a Bishop's palace before so wasn't sure what to expect. It didn't disappoint. I knew the church played a big part in the history of the country but never fully realised the extent of that influence. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly, and technology is creatively used in the building to inform and educate you. My only small gripe is how long the audio and video aids were. Even I lost interest eventually so there was no way my 8 year old was going to stick it out. She did however love the experience and came away with tons of facts to share. The grounds are large and you can take walks outside or visit the adventure playground. There was ample parking, a lovely gift shop, a cafe and museum and we even got to see a blacksmith at work. We had a picnic in the gardens which was lovely. It was surprisingly empty so we were able to speak to the historians who were excellent. Highly recommended.
We had a lovely time here at Hartlebury castle today. We visited on the D-day anniversary which happened to be on Father's Day. There was an offer which let dad's in for free which was so generous and unexpected. The grounds are kept immaculate and also the castle and museum. The staff and volunteers are super passionate and friendly and we all felt very welcome. We found the museum part great, they had wartime recipes being cooked and available to sample. There were singers and vintage cars, the atmosphere was great but still very peaceful. The woodland play area was a big hit with the kids and had nature boardwalks. Would definitely recommend if you are a history or nature lover, there is something for the whole family. Overall a great day out for the price and would definitely return. Thank you.
Visited on eater Sunday using Historic Houses pass. The warning I would give is we were told on arrival that normally on event days your not aloud in with Historic houses passes, although we were but just be cautious. The house itself is fantastic and well worth a visit. Only be here for a couple pf hours but it is a couple pf hors well spent
An unexpected gem! Had only heard of Hartlebury Castle recently. Took our guests at Easter and we all enjoyed it. The palace part is well set out and the museum of Worcestershire has lovely areas covering different aspects of life and times in the shire. The moat walk is accessible even in these muddy conditions and the cafe.....very good food.
Dating back to the 13th Century, this was the home to the Bishop of Worcester until 2007. It is now run by a trust and also houses the Worcester County Museum. Well worth a visit and a nice cafe too.
